Post your latest oil change

2005 Honda CRV 321,930km

OCI 9213km and 1 year

Out: Supertech 5w40 Euro and Fram Extra Guard
In: Same and OEM crush washer

1.5 litres of makeup oil. I generally change at 6000km or 6 months because by that point I’ll have added a couple of litres and it makes sense to change instead of topping up. Before this OCI I replaced the PCV valve and it slowed down usage and then it used none at all for the last few thousand km. No coolant getting into the oil so I have to think the PCV valve is responsible for the improvement, since nothing else changed. I’ve had this for 100,000km and this is the first improvement I’ve seen in consumption other than going with a 40 weight.

You could try switching to VRP if you can get it but 1.5 liters in 6000km is not bad at all. It is a lot less than many use from new.

HPL EC30 or EC40 may be an option to try. I currently use a quart of HPL regular PCMO in place of whatever else (see above) but that's for me in my head. I would have no issues using EC30 forever as 1qt added until I can afford or justify full HPL use in my short OCI's

Headlight polishing will help with nighttime visibility.

Out: Pennzoil Platinum 0W20 / YZZN1 Filter

First run with VRP. Gumout Fuel System Cleaner used on the tank before this change. Likely to do 4 OCIs with VRP and make this a regular preventative maintenance service every 40K miles or so.

I'm interested to see consumption on this OCI. It used no oil at all over the last third of this last one and that's when it usually accelerates a lot. I'm wondering if the PCV valve change made the difference.

As you say, a litre or two over the course of the OCI isn't something I'm concerned with. I probably wouldn't try HPL because it costs too much for shipping. VRP is something I might use some day if I'm down in Washington State and can pick it up, though the Supertech has done well for me.

As for the headlights, agree - it's time to clean them up a bit. I have a number of small jobs coming up like the headlights, window motor rear driver's side, and replacement of most of the light bulbs in the dash and hvac areas. I made the mistake of using Dorman lights last time - I'll go OEM now.

2008 CRV. 242k miles on the car, 4600 on the OCI. Timing, weather, vehicle availability, another good day to do it! A bit early but her next time home would be over 5k then with many short trips at school. Also when she's home next will be my sons wedding so probably no car work time, then Easter. It needs to go in Monday for a NYS inspection and probably Wednesday for new exhaust manifold donut and bolts. She popped a P0139 yesterday of course. She cleared it and drove home. OBD2 readiness monitor says all is well.

Out - 1qt HPL PCMO 5W-30, 3.5 qts PP Euro L 5W-30 and a Honda Filtech 15400-PLM-A01 from @researcher garage sale. 😁
In - 1qt HPL PCMO 5W-30, 3.5 qts Delo 5W-40 and another Honda Filtech 15400-PLM-A01 from @researcher 😁 only 2 more left in my supply now.

Next for this week - box up some filters to send to @53' Stude.

When I filled the oil it was hard to tell but seemed low but I was still on the ramps. It was draining for a longer time this time. I checked at work after sitting 10 hours on flat. It was a quart low, not really low but at bottom indicator of dipstick. So this change needed 5.5 quarts total.

1qt HPL, 4.5qts Delo. The waste Delo jug was pretty full so probably 4.25-4.5 qts and I had to add some to my Pennzoil 5qt which had about 4.5 in it from the Accord.

I'll have to park it higher like that next time so I get more out. I'm Ok with that so more fresh goes in.

My daughters 2004 Ford Escape 3.0.

Out was conventional Boss 5w20 and a Service Champ OF2222 filter. This looked to have been done at one of the local quick changes several years ago with the previous owner. I am unsure of the mileage but it wasn't overly dark and according to the sticker, it still had maybe 1000km left.

In went Super Tech synthetic 5w30 (found cheap) and a Fram Ultra XG2.

It took the full 5L jug and a trickle of leftover Mobil 0w30 to be right full.

The manual calls for 5000km oil changes. Will see how it goes.
