12,000 miles and 24,000 miles on the oil change or on the bikes?

Shift feel/quality remaining consistent pretty much throughout the whole oci?

What's the thought with T6 for the Suzuki and the T5/T6 blend on the Yamaha? Has that been by design due to how the oil responds over the life of an oci?

The shifting on the VStrom 800 is smooth and consistent throughout the entire 4000 miles. The Super Tenere is not as smooth even with a fresh change and does begin to deteriorate as the miles build up. I’ve owned six Super Tenere motorcycles since 2011 and none of them are what I would say have a great shifting transmission…..bullet proof though! I’ve been running Rotella of various viscosities for many years as well as HiFloFiltro oil filters with no complaints.

Castrol was $3 qt close out at local AZ.

Estimated hours on OCI: ~100
Out: 3.5qt OEM fill XPS 5w-40
In: 3.5qt blend of Napa SAE 30, Delo 15w-40, 5w-40, and Nyco 600

In: Supertech 75w-90

Coolant reservoir was replaced with Prestone Platinum. No good known way to drain coolant from radiator or engine.
It overall is just easier to split a full quart of gear oil for the transmission and final drive. There isn't really anything to fear using a GL-5 in the transmission, and I have yet to really see a need to use a 140 weight.

Try the HPL MATV if you’re looking to try something else. That stuff takes transmission behavior to a whole new level.

Those Rykers are fun! I wish we still had them at our MSF training facility. We simply didn’t have enough students to even cover the insurance costs on having them in our fleet.

What made you decide on that oil mix? For the transmission, it’ll likely do just fine on that 75w-90. The transmission in my Harley works great on the HPL V-Twin transmission fluid, which I believe is a 75w-140.

I like it so far. I'm going into it not trying to replace motorcycle usage, but just as a new powersport experience. I also like that i could more rationally share it with others who are too scared to get on 2 wheels, but would enjoy the motorcycle kind of camaraderie and scene.

The motor oil is just to try and flush out the old oil; ill most likely be putting HPL SQ SAE 30 in it in about 6 months with a new filter. I probably would have put in the V-twin to the transmission, but I was unprepared in a way to physically get it into the transmission hole. I also came to find that GL-5 is objectively safe for the application, so why not. If i feel like doing something wild I might use shockproof instead next time, who knows.
