Post Your Latest Coolant Change.

2009 Honda Pilot. 146,000 miles. This is a new to my family vehicle. Not sure when the coolant was changed last. I wanted to stay with Aisian Blue so selected Prestone Max Asian Blue good for 15 years. Contains 2EHA which I have in my other two vehicles. I prefer concentrated but couldn’t find any in town and since I might do the water pump down the road I settled on a one gallon spill and fill with the pre-mixed “ Ready to Use” coolant.

The Pilot has a small plastic valve in the rad. A small set of pliers is helpful to get it open. There is a small pee-hole in the under cladding so the coolant drains easily into a basin. Exactly one US gallon came out. I’ve included shots of the old and new coolants. The old coolant was darker. I also drained the coolant from the reservoir and filled it with new coolant. Enjoy the pics.

After a couple of 40 mile runs, the coolant I placed in the coolant reservoir was pulled into the radiator and circulating system and the reservoir was almost empty. Since this was a spill and fill, half of the volume was the original coolant, so I had no qualms about filling the reservoir with used coolant. It still looks quite translucent but is a darker shade.

Just did a 2018 Ford Edge 3.5L V6. It was using Motorcraft orange from the factory, but i switched it out for the new POAT Motorcraft Yellow. On this engine I was only able to get out 3qt from the petcock, and the system holds 11.7qt. I did five drain and fills to get it around 75% new fluid. Very tedious, but was an easy job, just a little time consuming. It has the same terrible petcock design as my GMC Terrain. Its basically a quarter turn and then you have to GENTLY twist and pull the petcock out about 2 millimeters and then the coolant will start to slowly drain. Then you have to push in while you turn to reclose it. I absolutely hate these petcocks because they are very fragile. I recommend picking up a new one as insurance before you do the job since they sell them for like $8 at Autozone and they do easily break if you are too aggressive with them.
