My mom is barely getting 22-23 on the same car, but with Auto. This is less than it was getting during the winter. Any ideas?

Either something is really amiss, such a spark plugs, air filter, emergency brake on, brake calipers not releasing completely, riding the brake pedal, OR, your mother is racing at night, OR, the method to determine MPG is incorrect, OR, she's not at cruising speed for the tankful. Probably some more OR's I didn't list.

She does in-town driving, but the MPG has been down about 2 mpg compared to normal.

Spark plugs and air filter were both done 15k ago. I got a code for an upstream oxygen sensor 2 weeks ago, but it mysteriously disappeared. Maybe it wasn't a hiccup after all?

The ethanol they added to the fuel could reduce fuel economy a bit. You could probably check the oxygen sensor to see if it still good.

How do I test an Oxygen Sensor?

you'll get over it soon (it took me a while as well). Excellent job with your highest tank MPG yet! You'll have that beat in no time

my '05 I4 camry gets about 8.2 L/100km on the open road going 100 km/h on cruise control. That's 28 - 29 MPUSG going 60 - 65 MPH.

It's an auto transmission.

Not all that great! I've read you should be able to get above 30 MPG.

FWIW, here's how I get my best mileage (05 Camry I4 5A):

- use gas with no ethanol, luckily I have a local station.

- tires to 34 psi all round (Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S)

- I seem to get best mileage around 75 mph... can't explain that!

Many times I've achieved 33+ mpg driving from Milwaukee, WI to Cleveand, Ohio in the summer at 75 mph with AC and cruise control on! Of course, I plan my trip to miss heavy Chicago traffic.

I also should add that I run Havoline 5W-30 and have ARXed my car twice. Currently 118,000 miles!

Of course, every car is different. Best of luck to you!

I just got 23.15 mpg, mainly highway through the White Mountains carrying an extra 350 lbs., after changing to Castrol GTX 5w-20. That is way better than before. I just finished my second ARX rinse though, and so mileage may even improve.

Edit: Oh yeah. That's a 1995 Caravan SE with a Mitsu 3.0 V6, with approx. 124K miles.

Boy, that really isn't good for that car...my Gramp Marquis consistantly gets over 29 mpg if I go that slow...and that's a 4000 lb body-on-frame dinosaur.

If it were mine, I'd be checking plugs or emergency brake drag or something until I found the reason.

best I ever got was 30.5 MPG using 98 octane premium petrol.

Just had everything serviced and injector system cleaned at the end of Feb.

I use toyota 10W-30 oil, nothing special.

i get 26 to 27 on our VW Jetta, my girlfriend drives it to work, never goes over 40, and there is a stop light every four to six blocks, true city driving

Tanked up again this morning. It was $3.259 at a little independent station on my way to work, totalling $43.03. 290.7 miles/13.2 gal. = 22 mpg average.

In contrast, the 4-cyl. 1997 Benz never got much over 23 on the average. If I still had it, and turned up with about 23.4, let's say, over the same distance I'd have burned 12.37 gallons. At 3.519/gallon (same station), I'd have paid . . . $43.53.

33mpg with my last few tanks-Camry 2.2L/automatic. Have been speeding more then normal. Not enough hours in the day and way too many spent commuting.

Even with gas climbing, the highways haven't slowed down a bit, most vehicles have only the driver, regularly see low tire pressures, and why does everyone speed up for the redlight or stop sign? Hyprocritical fools are the biggest wasters and complainers.
