Possible dealer mishap

I took my wife's 2021 VW Jetta into our local VW dealer today for a transmission fluid drain and refill. It has an 8 speed Aisin transmission (not DSG). I was quoted $299 for the service but upon payment I was told it would be $450. I questioned the amount and the service advisor was called. They did correct the payment amount so I asked why the discrepancy and they said "they hit the wrong button". When I later reviewed by paperwork it said "deleted operation(s) - DSG transmission service". Is it possible they used the incorrect fluid thereby charging me for the more expensive DSG service? I imagine the service advisor had the incorrect service in the entire time, but I'd like to think the techs in the back would have recognized this is a standard Jetta (non GLI) and that they would have performed the correct procedure with the right fluid, but I don't know these days.

You'll never know. Some techs will just use whatever fluid parts gives them assuming it's correct, others will take the time to use the correct fluid.

Is there a part number for the ATF on the invoice?
There is on the **corrected** invoice. It is the correct part number, however I'd assume the original invoice had DSG fluid. Could be wrong.

You could drop in and ask them in order to quell your concerns. Then hand write on the receipt recording your visit, the dealer's answer, and date it for future protection.

I once had a garage put the wrong fluid in a Dodge minivan, but there were shift symptoms. I went back after getting an analysis from Blackstone (proof) and had them put the correct fluid in. Blackstone could not identify the fluid, but identified ingredients not common to my recommended fluid.

Can you name your fluid and the DSG fluid? What is DSG mean?
Direkt-Schalt-Getriebe direct shift gearbox ie a dual clutch transmission. I had to learn numerous German phrases while working sales at a VW dealership. Funny thing is nobody asked or cared.

If you go back, they might be able to pull a small sample and tell which it is. Maybe the two fluids are quite different in color or odor?

The receipt shows they used the correct fluid, any evidence contrary was destroyed.
Well if the transmission fails you can do a used oil analysis and probably figure out what fluid it was. Especially if you look for a VOA or buy some of the correct fluid and the one you suspect they used and get a VOA on each.

How much fluid does your transmission use compared to the other one? If they're more than a quart off in capacity you can hold out hope that the tech noticed and returned the wrong fluid to parts before starting.

Dealer software is garbage, the story is plausible. Not excusable, but plausible.

ATF for auto box is red.
Oil for DSG is a very light variant of grey / brown (oil colour OK…)

If the transmission has a dipstick, pull it, wipe on white paper towel - if it aint red you need to investigate further.

If you aren’t tech minded / handed take it to a good indi shop to verify.
