Porsche 944 turbo filter

It is an excellent filter, made by Canton....I have been racing 944's for years and never had a problem with the factory spin-on filters...is there a particular reason you're using it? If it's already on the car, i'd keep it of course but i don't think it is necessarily needed.
It just makes oil changes some much easier, as you know when removing the original filter all the oil spills over everything. Why Porsche would mount it upside down in a difficult position I will never understand. Is there any by pass on this filter? Thanks for the reply
