Poor MPG in chevy cruise

Looks like Chevy says 33 psi on the door sticker,
which is max ride comfort,
and 51 max on the sidewall, which is max inflation.

More pressure - harsher ride, but less sidewall flex, less rolling resistance, better mileage.

If 51 is the max, try putting 45-47 psi in. I bet the mileage goes up 2-5 mpg...

Otherwise, the real world MPG's are well within the norm for Corrolla, Civic and Focus class cars. Which, by the way, achieve a solid 26MPG with me at the tiller... in normal conditions. And will achieve 30 only on extended highway trips with cruise set.

Exactly.

Very few cars in this segment achieve that.

I just looked at a Cruze 2LT, 225/50R17's I believe.

Max was 44 psi, in very small print...

I would try 38-40 PSI, instead of Chevy's 33...

Interesting. Last civic I had as a rental, for as noisy as it was, gave me 37 MPGs in 70% Hwy/30% city use.

Yep, that sounds normal for a car with EPA 25 city/35 highway ratings, especially when caning it. The 1.8 is noted for poor gas mileage, especially when coupled with an automatic transmission. With a manual transmission, the Cruze is much more efficient. Even in this horribly cold winter I'm averaging 38-40 mpg in mine. During the summer I can get 40 mpg at 72 mph, or 48-50 mpg at 60 mph.

The Cruze Eco uses a surprisingly not-horrid LRR tire that is the same 215/55-17 diameter as the 2LT 17" tires. Only the LTZ uses a 225/50-18 tire. All non-LTZ Cruzes use a 215mm wide tire.

Take a known inefficient car and drive it quickly, I'm not surprised in the least.

My fit only gets 33 in the winter with a tiny 1.5L - but that still beats the window CAFE and the car has Power tuned VTEC 16V. Problem: High revs on the highway with the FIT with a MT and running on the power intake lobe at 3500 - 4000rpm ... Ohh, I don't drive on the Interstate anymore.

As if a Prius is suppose to be a gas guzzler and it surprises you by this? Sorry, but that made no sense...

Drive anything at 80mph, and it will get worse than EPA. OP complained about low mpg at 75-80mph. Point is, they all drop mpg's as speed rises.

Not everything gets worse than EPA at high speeds. Sometimes the EPA highway numbers are just low. For my sister's 05 V6 Camry, it'll get 27 mpg cruising at 75 - 80, despite the EPA rating of 28 (tested at 55). I'm not quite sure how they got that number, as it'll get into the low 30s at lower speeds.

That's true. I didn't consider the Civic in the same "class" as the Crooze, but yes, Civics do get great mileage. My BIL has a 2012 Civic LX. He averages 37mpg tank/tank often.

Interestingly, the EPA has revised its procedure for estimating MPG...here's the Camry I4's

New MPG
21 City
30 Hwy

Old MPG
24 City
33 Hwy

....I get MPG more like the OLD MPG city estimate and exceed HWY MPG....24 and 34-35 @ 75+ mph...!!!

Yeah, the EPA revised fuel economy ratings in the late 2000s

My MR2 (1.8l) was 25/30 before and then 22/27 after.

However, I easily get 25mpg city even with track/autox tossed in and then I get 35-38mpg on the interstate. I average 30mgg with migh 20s in the city and high 30 on the highway. On one long back-road cruise in a area where I was going 45-55 for an entire tank, I was able to eek out 40mph.

Some of the revised EPA rating made sense, some were completely in the wrong direction.

I find that the sweet spot is 81mph and once I get there, I average 44mpg in my 2007 Prius! The next nearest sweet spot is 87mph. At that speed, I get (aside from shocked looks from the people Im passing because Im in a PRIUS) 42mpg.

Yeah, I pretty much consistently beat the older, old EPA numbers...

+1 My daughters 2009 Civic gets 33-35mpg no matter how you drive it. These numbers averaged over 20,000 miles.

Sounds like the 1.8 auto combo is subpar for today's standards. Our '14 accord 6mt will effortlessly knock down 35 mpg at 80 mph, in a much bigger car.

The 1.4L eco trim is pretty good, and the diesel cruze should get a lot better. Only the price is too high for both. Our accord sport only ended up being 2,500 more than a Cruze Eco. That modest bump in price netted a lot more car.

I can imagine a Mazda 3 would destroy it in fuel economy. Perhaps GM should just kill the 1.8 and only sell the 1.4 and the diesel.

I actually beat the EPA rating in my Mazda6S 3.0 at 80 mph (Interstate 45 speed limit 75mph...I was one of the "slow cars" at 80)

It was only by about 1 mpg. 80 mph, A/C on, into a strong headwind though? I'll take it.

My Chrysler on the otherhand...

the only car I have ever owned that gets exactly what the window sticker indicates it will get. 65mph, fairly level road, no A/C, calm wind? 26 mpg. (revised EPA rating is 24mpg though so I guess it technically does beat it)

EPA numbers have nearly always been pretty far off from what I actually get. My Suzuki Swift was supposed to get 39mpg freeway. I could beat that thing like a redheaded stepchild that was also a rented mule and it would still deliver 45mpg.
