Ok ive posted before about my cars a/c issue. I made a new post to discuss a specific thing though.
Last week the a/c compressor would run but low line wasnt cold to touch and air out of the vents was not cold. The dealer wasnt able to replicate the issue and it hasnt done it since. ive noticed with max a/c it gets cold even at idle but in regular
A/c the low line isnt cold and the air out the vents is probably around 60-65 degrees. The pressures in this condition were 60 and 250. The second i turn the max a/c on the pressures slowly drop over 45 seconds or so to 40 and 230..... my theory is whatever controls how hard the a/c compressor works is basically making it hardly work on normal a/c. Im not sure I'm correct on this and im not positive what controls the load the compressor puts out. What do you guys think?

I think these models have a scroll compressor, but in any case the car is under factory warranty and Ford must repair it to as designed operation....

ram_man:

You need to get in the car and show the tech the issue.

BTW you say you are having an issue using the AC with fresh air entering the car? What has the ambient temp been there and the humidity? I know it has been over 100F and very humid there for a number of days so it wouldn't be surprising if the non recirc AC is only down to 60F That is still a drop of 40 degrees.

Its a variable displacement and the high has been in the 80s when i checked the car tonight it was about 76 degrees moderate humidity not really bad.

Please stop asking us, and take the thing to Ford

There is a TSB out regarding cooling fan performance, has that come up?

If you need to prattle online about this, go talk to user FordService on the Focusfanatics forum, he may be able to help your dealer issues better.

Its been to ford they can't figure it out.....that's why i am trying to. And focusfanatics is a useleaa forum bitog is much better.

I don't think it has an ambient temp sensor? It the manual hvac system.

manual? then the system will use a pressure sender to control the variable displacement. I'd look into that then. could be either the low or high side pressure they're looking at.

"Normal" A/C uses outside air to cool, "max" recirculates inside conditioned air to cool. You might have a blend door issue where some heated air from the core is mixing with cool air.I have noticed on my systems, when properly charged, both lines going into the evaporator were equally cold.

the line going in should be hot, the bigger return should be cold

85 degrees. As soon as i put it on max ac the pressures dropped though to 230/40

Time before last time when i got my car back the aero shield was shoved under the the radiator support and the holes were torn i told the dealer i wanted a new one. Fast forward to now since i got the car back the last time the ac has been making noise and workint intermittently and what not i decide to change oil today and while under it aee this it is the metal guard that goes around the bottom of the a/c compressor. So somehow the dealer did this........not sure how to proceed the urge to slap someone with a service manual is getting very powerful but i know that will not solve anything.

Well I can say it isn't a problem I'd ever notice cause I only use max/recirculate... Why anyone would try to cool hot/humid ambient air is beyond me, system doesn't work as hard cooling cabin air... For you guys looking for max MPG, recirc is the tip of the day...

I think you miss the point the ac should work decent on regular ac to. And regular a/c near the end of a drive helps keep mildew smells down. The system should work decent on both but max should be colder. But not by that much.

What is the ambient humidity level when you have this issue?

My a/c will struggle on normal AC when humidity gets very high. It is to the point where the air doesn't feel cool at all. My AC is known to be on the smallish side but it gets the job done under recirc (which is why it is used for Max AC). It isn't big enough to provide enough sensible and latent cooling in these times. Setting it to recirc allows it to pull the humidity down enough to provide more sensible cooling which makes the air colder since it isn't pulling in humid outside air anymore.

If recirc is producing nice cold air and you have high humidity levels outside, i'd say your AC is working fine.

One problem I have run into with doing that is using recirc only causes the vents to smell badly very quickly. Not sure why but I have to use fresh air regularly to prevent something from causing that smell buildup in the vents.

Lay off the beans.

But seriously, there should be *less* moisture in the system after a long run on recirc, so something else is going on.
