polymer route and Caranuba

well someone pointed out in another thread that polymer lasts alot longer thank carnuba wax. my friend let me use his mequires professional (tan bottle) on my car and it was soo nice, but the polish and wax didnt last past a month...much less than the 3 step mequires system. that irritated me.

now i found that mequires makes a polymer sealer, i think #20 and also s100 wax is good but its still a carnuba.

mequiars also have a medallian paint or something in ia black bottle.

i would like to get your guys input to polymer waxes. is it the same shine than carnuba? it last longer right? would you use a polish-wax combo?

thank you. i just want to invest my money in something that lasts. also only things that can be found over the counter.

IMO/experience, carnuba will give you the best shine; polymers will last longer.

how much shine for a polymer compared to a carnuba...its still a shine right? my car is pretty clean...

those are with mequiars 3 step. but fadded wax, the wax is about 80% done.

so will a polymer shine more or = to that?

what do you prefer.

polymers give clarity and shine like heck, while caranubas give a wet look with depth. Personally, I would use a polymer like klasse, zaino, meguiars #20 or medallion premium paint protection(go to meguiars site, and youll see their nxt wax coming out in february, it will be a great polymer wax), and blackfire/platinum. You can always top a polymer sealant with a caranuba wax after 24 hrs of applying the sealant for added depth and look. If you want supreme protection, I would definitely go the polymer route. Only top a polymer if you have a darker car, bc you will only be able to tell the difference on a darker car. Hope this helps!!!!!

if i use mequiars squirl and mequiars polymer sealer...will that be ok

As Hondaguy suggested use the poly first then topcoat with the wax if you like. I just use straight polymer, Klasse on my vehicles since its extremely quick to apply. I reapply whenever the water stops beading, about 3 times a year.

If meguiars swirl remover works for you, then i say go ahead and use it. Although, I myself am usually dissappointed with using a swirl remover to remove swirls bc most of the time, they are not that light of swirls. If the swirl mark remover isn't working for ya, pick up some meguiars dual action cleaner polish or 3m fine cut rubbing compound and use that first, then use the swirl mark remover, then the poly sealant. Again, only use the least aggressive product to get the job done.

I've been told that polymers can make a panel tough to repaint if it's ever damaged though. No matter, I like my old-school carnuba.

Solvents are used to prep the surface before repainting. Then the surface is sanded. Unlikely any polymer would be left if the surface is properly prepped.

I would never go back to carnuba based waxes.. to much time and effort for short protection. Zaino is quick to apply and lasts a long time. I assume that other polymer protectants like Klasse are the same.
My car is silver so it doesn't look very "deep" but it looks really good after a Zaino treatment and keeps that look for a long time, especially since I layer the Zaino.

i dont care for the super deep shine, people admire my car when there is even no wax hahha...polymer seems right for me.

but your right, alot of effort and time....never realized that.

maybe i should stand with mequiars polymer line...then zaino...that is expensive stuff.

Yup, Zaino is a polymer, it's not really a "wax" but a synthetic paint sealant. So there is a rather longer process to get the paint as clean as possible before you first apply Zaino because you want to "lock it in" but after that you just wash the car, dry and apply Zaino for multiple layers. With the ZFX, I can put on a couple of coats in 1 hr. No white wax residue, simple apply, dry in 15min with the ZFX and wipe off. Great for lazy people like me who want a decent looking car without spending 3-4hrs to do it.

The good quality carnauba waxes require less effort than Zaino. S100/P21S, Clearkote Carnauba Moose Wax, Poorboy's Natty Paste Wax and Pinnacle Souveran (expensive) all wipe on and wipe right off.

Zaino is a great product, but it isn't the fastest process in the world. It doesn't correct swirl marks, scratches or oxidation. Your finish must be in perfect condition since Zaino is so optically clear it magnifies the defects. Zaino does give excellent gloss and sharp reflections. It also lasts a long time.

Since your car is silver, Zaino would be a good choice. The Klasse twins (All in One and Sealant Glaze) go for about $40 and give the same look and durability. Klasse does a much better job of cleaning the paint as well. Sealant Glaze adds additional shine and protection.

its not that zaino is a long step process, its just you have to prep the finish first b4 even applying zaino. Maybe bc zaino has no real polishes that go along with it. Either way, youd still have to use meguiars, 3m, or menzerna polishes first b4 applying any polymer to get rid of surface defects. One thing i can suggest is applying zaino z2 to klasse all in one. It will improve durability, and make it last longer.

Having used almost all of the products spoken of Zaino is not only the easiest to apply but the easiest to remove, even in the blaring sun. It leaves no residue on plastic as most carnubas do and lasts much longer. I mix (coat over) carnuba with Zaino and vice versa all the time (Sal would die if he knew I suppose) but it seems to make no difference. I like the Collinite Marque d'elegance carnuba as it gives a slightly better shine then the Z but a lot depends on how much time you have to do the job and the climate. If you can wax all year and like doing it who cares what product you use if you like the shine.

I really like crystal-glo,1 coat is awesome,2 coats really gives a wet look to neglected finishes,easy on and off.Can't find it in the store,had to order direct.
