polishing before or after chip/scratch repair?

I saw some good videos about chip/scratch repair:





The author did polish paint first before doing the repair. His results are good. But I thought one would fix scratch first before polishing the whole car?

I don't think that you'd want any sort of a contaminant (such as polish or wax) present anywhere you're trying to make a repair.

I clean the area with rubbing alcohol first, and then wax/polish after everything is dry and cured.

I always polish as much of the scratch out before wet sanding it.

That was a giant job with that bondo. I found another video of his for a smaller scratch repair. Now I understand a bit better why sanding before.
