Polestar 4 appearance

It's just too much for a car. Cars are depreciating assets, and EVs are "more worser".
I've spent enough time on Rennslist and other car forums to recognize and accept that some people have a lot more money than me. Some of them are my clients. If you got a few million sitting in investments earning a good return, then spending an extra 50k on a vehicle isn't a big deal, so they prioritize getting what they like. For some folks dropping 10k is like the average person spending 1k. It's just not impactful given their overall net worth and income level.
 
I'm really thrown by these insanely expensive EVs. Yes, they're cool but they can't be selling that well. Ys and 3s are everywhere at their price point.
Supposedly the economy is turning "K-shaped." The stock market has been doing well since the pandemic, so those with substantial assets are still in the mood to spend. Everyone else is cutting back. Polestar is a premium brand, so it's going for the higher end of the market. Jaguar is doing the same. Ford, Slate, and Rivian are targeting the middle and lower end.

I'm fine with insanely expensive EVs because I don't feel the need to be first, as I don't feel like being bothered with the inevitable software or hardware issues. when I had my I-Pace it was half off the MSRP. I expect something similar will happen here. Most purchasers will lease and the vehicles will see steep depreciation, as with the Taycan and other luxury EVs. It's a win for consumers of all stripes.

$50k I get for a car. That's just where the market is if you want a little tech and not a base vehicle. At 2x-3x that I just don't see it.
 
I get Lada Neva vibes or Fiat Panda from it.
I get VW cross county vibes, the VW is sleeker than ugly thing.

I paid under 40k for an I-pace that MSRPd over 80k. At the time it was the most I ever paid for a car. It was definitely worth it. Ever single trip became more enjoyable. Every surface in that vehicle was covered in rich materials. The handling and acceleration were excellent. The car drew attention everywhere we went.

But value is a very subjective thing. My Blazer cost more than the I-pace and it's worse in every metric except range, charge speed, and space. I needed the tax credit so I went through with the purchse. Some might say it's not worth it, but again, it's a subjective value judgement. At the time I valued the tax offset more than the specific attributes of the vehicle. YMMV.
 
Not at all, the Polestar 1 and the new 4 are good looking cars, the model S was not bad either. You obviously just have no sense of what a good looking car is if you think that thing looks decent. :ROFLMAO:
It's quirky in an interesting way. I wouldn't particularly call it good looking.
 
I personally think it was a big mistake to not just make these Volvos. Much harder to build brand reputation (essentially) from scratch in Polestar vs. taking advantage of an established brand name in Volvo.

Polestar was the tuning branch of Volvo, so they just broke it off from Volvo to make EVs. The name makes sense for racing, not so much as a standalone brand that isn't a performance brand. I think they really missed an opportunity not building wildly fast versions.

Nice looking cars, but what a stupid name.

I like Polestar, but there's still not a single retailer in my state. Now that I got on the Tesla bandwagon and live with it and use FSD daily, Polestar isn't getting a second consideration from me unfortunately.

I really like supporting US manufacturing too, though I'll say for Polestar that they make some beautiful vehicles. I loved their initial hybrid they made. The Polestar 1 basically just looked like the Volvo roots it came from, but it's just gorgeous.

That's a head turner in my book. $55k for a used one is still a little rich for me, bit a good deal for a somewhat exotic and rare look.

Polestar 2 was ugly. Plebian.

Polestar 3 is good looking and was on our short list of potential new cars last year. Volvo XC90 Plug In Hybrid won out.

Polestar 4 is good looking, as well - hope it does well.

We are having a Tesla Charger installed at our new house next week. It’s for the PHEV, but with a 60 amp service, it’s intended to support a future EV.

Now, once I get solar installed, I can follow in the big footsteps of @JeffKeryk
Heh. I started a project adding 6 circuits in the garage last month. I only needed 2, but let’s do it all at once. Realized half way thru that insurance/peace of mind would include a professional with inspections, so we shifted to that. But part of it is 2x 30 amp EV plugs. I was flirting with the idea of a PHEV later this year.

Whether that happens or not, the garage will be able to handle it.

GFI 2-pole breakers is where da money is at these days.

I actually thought the polestar 2 was ok because it blended in, not some weird aero optimized bubble.

I agree on the 3 and 4.

But if I had to buy a car now it would be the v60 t8 polestar. I think they’re selling for more than original,sticker though…
