I want to get a nice pair of Sunglasses like Ray-Bans. will be used for general purpose outdoor sunny weather. Polarized glasses are about $40 more expensive than regular. I'm not sure for general use if it makes any real world difference. Opinions form users? Ed

Reflected light is polarized.

So, on water, or on snow, polarized lenses can cut a lot of the glare.

However, LCD light is also polarized. So, when using some electronic devices, or in an airplane cockpit, they're detrimental.

Assuming you keep your head upright, polarized are fine sunglasses. Tip your noggin to the sides and the image gets all funky.

Having said that, what's a Canadian doing giving someone from Florida advice about sunglasses !

It makes a huge difference with glare for me. To the point where I refuse to buy anything but polarized glasses. I think the most I've spent for sunglasses is $30, but if my only option was Ray-Bans, than I'd cough up the extra $40.

Yes, I can barely see the backup camera in my car with polarized sunglasses on.
I still use them, just flip them up when I need the camera.

Wally world can net you polarized sunglasses for a lower price. Worth a check.

I only use polarized as well, I have it on my prescription sunglasses as well.

Check out Costa sunglasses. I've always been an Oakley fan (at least their US products) and still am for sports activities, but a friend of mine got a pair of polarized costas with glass lenses and I have to say for the money they're pretty amazing. In bright light I can feel my eyes relax when going to them from my polarized oakelys.

You don't have to deal with glare off of snow?

Well, I've lived in Texas, Florida, Colorado, Connecticut, Vermont, Virginia, and yes, Winnipeg...

So, I've seen some snow, and some sun shining on the water...

Besides, it's always sunny at 35,000 feet...

All I wear is polarized. As stated before it cuts down on the glare. We did labs in university dealing with light, polarized coatings etc and ever since then I fell in love with the concept.

For the sake of solidifying the consensus, I'll repeat what others have said. I find polarized far better in every application but looking at an LCD screen.

Polarized works great for glare. If you fish or ski, they are almost indispensable. But if you check your smartphone or try to use a ATM for example, they get hard to read. I have to flip my glasses up.

I like polarized, except for when i rode a motorcycle. I prefer to see other drivers faces. If they are not looking at me, i assume they don't see me and will turn/pull out in front of me.

Only wear polarized. If you want to look at an LCD screen just tilt your head to one side or the other, and it will clear right up.
Check out Shady Rays (shadyrays.com) sunglasses. They are polarized and offer free lifetime replacement if lost or stolen or broken...and are all under $50.

The lower sun angles of winter and Northerliness demand sunglasses just as much if not more so.

I like polarized. Tilt my head to read gas pumps.
