Got another car to service, wondering if anyone has any pointers. Car burns oil but is in very good shape otherwise.
Plan is to start with spark plugs, Haldex oil, oil/filter change so far.

TIA

Check PCV system, maybe try the "glove test". Replace timing belt and drive belts if unknown age.

I have a S40 T5 (compact version of this engine). Mine has run like a champ, bought at 185k and currently at 235k miles. Only issues: 1. fuel pressure regulator caused power to cut unexpectedly. 2. O2 sensor went bad. 3. One coil went bad.

On the S40, the upper radiator hose has a bad design and will crack and leak. And the coolant reservoir gets old too. Don't know about the S60.

I don’t know the 2013, but the 5 cylinder cars were notorious for pcv pressure buildup which contributed to all kinds of oil things and blown cam seals.

I also bought a 2009 with 160k on it, which used 1 qt every thousand miles. I ran Pennzoil platinum oil in it and half a can of seafoam in the oil. doing this over the course of 10,000 miles with frequent oil changes, the oil use slowly returned to zero, eventually.

note, some of the s60s between 2010-2013 were known for having loose fitting rings (like many makes have done) which also increased oil consumption.

On my car, there is a diaphragm in the PCV system - when it tears, it creates a squealing sound and also high crankcase pressure. I think recently you are able to replace just the diaphragm, but in the past, the whole PCV flame trap and maybe the oil filter assembly needed to be replaced. My T5 has not had PCV issues. I use Euro synthetic oil from the big brands, maybe that helps?

Thank you everyone!
It's my buddy's wife's car, we'll check PCV and run full diags with my new Xtool D7 (just got it last Fri) too when he brings the car in for oil change and AWD fluid change.

Properly maintained these cars will last a very long time.

My thoughts:

A properly operating PCV system. This is critical.

Engine oil that meets ACEA A3/B4. This is critical.

AT and PS Cooler line exchange. You do not want to change the steering rack in this car.

Replace all remaining fluids.

Use magnetic drain/fill plugs when possible. You do not want to replace a Haldex unit.

@Astro14 has extensive experience with these cars. Hopefully he will chime in.

Did oil/filter change, oil was very dirty at 4k km (2.5k mi).
Found oil in spark plug 2 well, cleaned and changed plugs, car runs great now, will check again if oil makes it there. Car has unknown maintenance history.
Changed Haldex AWD fluid, was very dirty and screen was dirty too. May do it again.
@Sam_Julier - thank you for the input!

If it was nasty, don’t hesitate to keep 1/3 to 1/2 a can of seafoam in the crankcase and drive it that way for a year. 2 of mine benefitted greatly by that, purchased each with over 100k. After 1-2 years, oil consumption became about zero. One was NA, the other was a turbo.
