I've never used these things and don't plan on doing so. Someone in my family keeps chipping the paint off their doors' edges. What's a good brand-name product? My concern is water retention between the guard strip and the finish that may eventually cause rust.
Please recommend a good door edge guard product

How advice on how to not chip the paint off. That would be easier on our vehicles too.
Can you mount something soft to the walls of the garage?
There's another car next to it.
That may work. I just saw a video on the XPEL film. I only knew the thicker edge guard material.

Putting something protective on will be just one step. Teaching the kids to use their fingers as separation between doors and other hard surfaces would be the other. Anything put on the door edges will get banged up in no time from the sound of it.

You told your 5-year-old kids and their horde of friends to use their little fingers as door protectors? Did your dad maybe use your head as a doorstop? Did you ever have kids with friends or even kids?
You may be exaggerating the situation in your mind just a wee bit. Also, it's not a perfect world.

In reality when I have to open a car door in a tight situation I do use my fingers as a door guard. I’m sure the owner of the adjoining vehicle appreciates the gesture.
Nobody is slamming their fingers between two doors. I was taught this early on. It’s not as high tech as a stopper or film protection but it works and I’ll bet I’m not the only one here that does this.

If you have smart park, you can block someone from getting into their vehicle next to you.

The real answer is to leave it to your cousin. They seem to be doing a bang up job so far teaching their children.

️ ️You may be better off coming up with an engineered solution to make the garage less accident prone and more fool proof. If you Google car door protection, there are all sort of large mats that protect against door dings. Maybe simply hang one of these mat-like products between each of the bays (and walls) at door level. This will cause the driver to park more carefully and protect against most dings. Or, maybe something like swim noodles hung horizontal between bays?
