I have gas heat, cooking, and water heater. the furnace is on a timer thermostat so it is only on when we are home. it is set 68-70 while we are home, 64 when we are not. the house will usually maintain 64 with the furnace turned off for days.
average temperature is in the 50-60s

Gas and electric ~$100/month. About 60% is for gas and 40% is electric. We rarely use the heater, maybe once or twice a year to let the furnace exercise. Lighting is about 75% fluorescent for most frequently used areas (kitchen, living room). Many energy star compliant electronics (tv, computer monitor). I avoid running high power consumption appliances like washing machine 4-7pm. I try to keep the refrigerator temperature at a lower setting (careful not too low) and clean the condenser coils.

Water bill is about $200/2 months. Low flow toilet (1.5-1.6gpf), showerhead (2.5gpm) and faucets (1.5-2.5gpm). I do turn the water heater down a bit so I don't take a long shower. Water heater is drained once a year for maximum efficiency. I wash the car once a month.

Phone about $50 with dsl and no long distance.

My electric bill runs from $150 in the winter to $225 in the summer, the swimming pool pump runs 6 hours a day though and that ads to it. Heating oil $0, house coal $0 Natural gas $0 Florida does have its benefits.

My house is total electric about 1600 sq ft and on average monthly billing. My bill is $125.00. I cook a lot, do laundry every day (warm wash), and run the dishwasher every day. I keep the house 72 during the day and 67 at night. I am in a rural area so my water bill is about $35.00 a month (it would be cheaper in town) and trash collection is $45.00 for 3 months. I was clothes for myself and blankets and bedding for the dogs. Arkansas is not a bad place to live. Good fishing and nice people.

about $60 a month for electric only. Sewage and water extra $30 a month. we live in a 1000 square foot apartment. keep our heat at 70 degrees, this past month our electric was $90 and I wasn't happy.

Has anyone else tried reading their electric meter every hour, and plotting a graph, so they can identify the biggest peaks in their usage pattern? It would be really easy if your meter is indoors, and you have a webcam.

When you carefully measure things, you can more easily find ways to reduce costs.

Air leaks can be sealed up to save on heating, but you have to find them first. Building a blower door is very easy, and it can be made out of scrap materials.

My FIL gave me a device, commonly used on boats, which uses inductive coils on the two main legs into the house, and sends the signal to two ammeters in my kitchen.

With the right labview setup, I bet this would be very easy to do in real time!

Too bad I dont have labview...

Our house was built around 1888..very little insulation and most of the windows are original!! We're insulating and updating as we go along. No small project though. House is leaky as [censored].
Furnace is about 20 years old but in good shape.

From 1/25 to 2/25..don't know the average temperature, but it's been cold!

Electric hot water, dryer, on site water well means it stays around $150/month.

500 gallons heating oil currently $3/gall = $1500/year for 1100SF 1850 built home with no modern windows. Some nearly original with storms to make double layer.

Lastly $150/year for propane for gas stove only.

Heat 64F overnight & 68F daytime. Two little ones and two adults. I work 100% at home.
