About to go on a Labor Day weekend camping trip.

Changed my oil and transmission fluid... Put in the required 6.5 qts of Mobil 1 5w30 in the engine, then accidentally put in 1/2 qt of Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF.

Am I ok? By the way, it equates to around 7% of the total (1/2 of ATF divided by 7 qts total)

At least there's no worries of additive clash due to different manufacturers of oil.

I would leave it alone. ATF is thin oil with some slightly different additives so probably no harm done.

So this is not ideal but it's not likely to hurt anything. People have been known to put ATF in with the oil on purpose thinking, incorrectly, that it will help clean things. Nobody here recommends doing that. It's an old wive's tail. Point is, I don't think you have to worry that much. You could either run it for a little while or change it at your next convenience.

Although not a best practice. M1 syn ATF has a viscosity of a light 20 weight oil so 7% is not going to thin your oil much. I have heard of people running small amounts of atf for a short run to clean up a lifter, or mixing it half and half and letting it idle for a while. I guess logically it probably is not worth the risk although the risk in my opinion is pretty small. I dont think it will hurt for one OCI.

Run it 5K and don't worry at all. If you had put a few quarts of ATF in the motor I'd be concerned but 1/2 qt won't hurt a thing.

dont change it now, lots of folks believe the wife's tale that ATF is good to clean engines and run it.

I would go on a shortish OCI though.

That was in the old days when ATF had some WHALE OIL in it, regardless, the OP will be fine.

Change it after your camping trip. A half quart won't do any damage to your engine.
