Platinum Plugs 2010 Honda Fit?

Cross referencing I came up with some leads, but what would be a good NGK single Platinum plug? I'd like to avoid changing heat range, but don't mind gapping them myself.

I am asking because my fuel economy isn't as good as new and would like to change plugs for fun. And I don't like the idea of paying 25$ a spark plug for double Iridium OE plugs.

If you like to change the plugs in less than 50-60k miles then NGK or Denso single platinum plug is good for that mileage.

I'd leave them in eventhough that doesn't answer your question. Instead get some Techron Fuel system cleaner. What is your current mileage and driving conditions? Usually the winter blend lowers mileage by a good 10%. Not sure if CA gets winter fuel or not though. Check air pressures which I have to do also. Lighten up with the gas pedal and stop red lining it.

When I was lining up car compatibility with the guide in Canadian Tire (only way I can find a compatible plug as they only seem to list 100% compatible, or what they are told to list in the book).

The most likely Single Platinum Plug that is 10.49 for 2!! Seemed to be:

Same heat range: G-POWER PLATINUM BKR6EGP
Hotter plug: G-POWER PLATINUM ZFR5FGP

I am not sure if the hotter plug would increase FE, but I am not really experienced in choosing plugs to know what is better or not.

I would like to have a spare set of plugs in my tool box. I don't mind changing plugs every 50,000 miles as I figure changing more often keeps them from seizing.

Also, taking the plugs out of a Fit is a lot of trouble. If I pop out the OEM plugs and they look due for a change, I want the extra set of plugs on hand for simplicity sake.

Even in the warmer weather my FE seems to be getting worse, and I have had a few misfire codes in the past.

winter fuel+ frequent warmup from cold+ front windsheld defrosting (which turns on AC by default) ...will cause your fuel economy to drop significantly.

Also: factory original came with iridium plugs on all honda fit already, so why would you even want to "downgrade" to platinum?

How many miles/km are on the car now? Are you still under warranty? Doesn't your car have the MM? Spark plugs are one of the items it tracks.

What are the OCI's suggested by the MM? This could also be an indicator

The OE Denso or NGK iridium plugs are supposed to last at least 100k miles/160k km, which is part of the reason they cost $25 at the dealer.

BUT, you don't have to spend $25 at the dealer for an iridium plug. The "aftermarket" iridium plugs Denso Iridium Long-Life or NGK Laser Iridium should "only" run about $10 each. Finally, Bosch makes an OE-type iridium plug for about $5 each.

Even the NGK's, the most expensive one, are under $50 shipped to Canada for all four from Rock Auto. Don't forget about the 5% off promo codes.

Still though, changing them out before Honda's minder tells you to is a waste of money and will most likely not restore your fuel economy. Let alone replacing them with inferior parts.

As far as gas mileage, there are a lot of things that could cause a drop in MPG before suspecting the spark plugs.

I read on the NGK site that ethanol in gas may be negated by going one step colder.

I am looking into this, but I think I may be on to something.

I would like a Platinum plug, one step colder to try out. Picking a plug outside of a recommended plug seems tricky.

No need to change them before 80K miles (128 kms)

Buy the EXACT same plus that is in your car online from places like eBay or Amazon. I always buy online and the plug run $10/each shipped to me although might be more expensive up there in Frigid Land.

Up in Frigid Land it is tough to get a great deal on OE Iridiums.

The cheapest NGK platinum plug I can get, using this chart and a bit of staring at the screen is:

My car recommends using the premium platinum plugs(~$12) and i use the cheap G-Power platinum plugs (~$2.50)

Just use the cheap stuff if you want to try attempt fixing gas mileage issues. Spark plugs dont make a difference in gas mileage.

I decided to check out Rock Auto as Tommygunn suggested.

Turns out they offer a lot more plug options than everyone elses references present.

But, at 50$ USD (56$ CDN) for four Laser OE Iridium direct replacement NGKS, taxes and shipping included with 5% off code, I just ordered that.

I figured now I can pull my plugs in the Summer and get a chance to crack the coil on plug boots off the tops of the plugs and use Wurth silicone on them to freshen them up.

Also, I get to really crack the plugs loose and read the engine's health at a sensible interval before they seize in the head.

If the plugs look rounded a bit, at least I'll have plugs on hand to make it easier without having to put everything back and order them, only to redo the job (PITA on a Fit).

Local parts guy wanted 95$ taxes in for these plugs, ClubPlug wanted 73.95$ taxes in.

The dealer wanted 115$ after tax for these same plugs! So less than half price is great for me, the savings will go toward a new battery after next Winter.
