it's likely around 20 years old. A Purolator Pure One with pretty sturdy construction overall.

I believe it's either been kept indoors or in an enclosed garage, and here in Georgia it doesn't get particularly cold and rust isn't usually an issue.

I'm still heavily leaning on throwing it away. But maybe it's still worth using.

Old filters that have been cut open on here before didn't have the media or glue disintegrate like how many of us imagined. That's gotta be the shortest transmission interval i've ever seen. Most oem's were specifying 30k fluid and filter intervals by the 70's I think. Maybe 12k is a severe interval but by the 90's severe intervals were 30-45k.

It's an oil filter. These were pretty massive.

I remember when those were the bees knees! I used to buy them back in the 90s all the time. It’s too bad that Purolator doesn’t care about making “pure oil later” anymore (that’s how they got their name!)

What oil change interval do you do on the car that it fits? From the pictures, it looks in great shape. I would have no problem running it for a 5k - 6k mile oci.

I love the build quality of this filter. It's as if they went out and created a gold standard. Also made in the U.S.A. and bought at Sears for $2.97 back in the day.

If Corporate America and their political henchmen hadn't sold their souls to the diety of the cheap, we would be seeing this level of quality in a lot more of our products.

I thought greed was ok now. Anyway MH is owned by a German family. They want their investment to succeed, so now Wix has been made competitive in the micron ratings game. I bought the Boss, quite a few, and one cut open looked great. Those will be all I use going forward, if even I go through all of them before no more drivers license.

This is kinda like deja vu. Another poster very recently had an older US Purolator made Mann and posted asking about using. It also rust free, looked usable 'to me' and that was my advice. Ultimately decided not to use, he c&p it and his words looked "fine." What I can see plus added storage info, I think this usable too. This one from Arvin Meritor ownership, before M&H&Bosch bought Purolator. As noted, if you choose not to use it, c&p would be nice.
