Piston soak for an m9r

Hi to all!

I have a renault trafic II 2.0dci m9r (early version without dpf) with 245k km that has oil consumption issues and low compression on cylinder 1.

Previously it was property of a company that used it for work and not took care so seriously about maintenance. When i changed the injectors they had a lot of carbon on the tips.

Probably i will not solve the issues with a piston soak but i want to give it a try.

The first problem is that the famous b12 chemtool it’s not avaliable in Spain and getting it from uk will be quite expensive due to tariffs and so…

Searching info i found people using a mix of acetone and atf 50/50, it’s that good safe? I’m open to any recommendation.

Thanks!

Acetone would likely harm the seals and atf will do nothing. Piston soak would be good. Don't know what country you're in but something like berrymans b12 is what we use. Don't know if you can get that or an equivalent.

Have you owned it for all its 153 miles (245k km)?

I've read the PEA in injector cleaners works on injector tips after shutdown.
Is Chevron's Techron or Red Line's S-1 available in Spain?

You need to hook up with some travelers who'll mule things for you.

The b12 isn’t easily avaliable in Spain. I found it on ebay uk but will be a bit expensive due to tariffs and so…

Here we can find easy euro brands like wynn’s, liqui moly, etc…

Nope, i just bought it (bought to say something because it was a symbolic price due to general condition). I want it as a tow vehicle project for my trackday car and also camper conversion (all done, now time to fix the engine).

In sort/mid term i want to build a new engine but at the moment i want to try the van “as it is” for some months to check if all the rest it’s good.

Never heard about the chevron but redline si1 is avaliable here. But this is not a petrol additive? Or can be used also for piston soak?

Based on the smell Berryman’s contains quite a bit of toluene. Can you find toluene, xylene, or methyl ethyl ketone in hardware or paint stores where you are?

Berrymans b12 is one of the best and most aggressive ones. The liqui moly version uses more naptha and is possibly less aggressive but would still work though you might not have enough time to do it once. It's best to do it when you don't need the car like friday after work and adding more and turning the crank until sunday night so you can go to work on monday. Giving it the most time is best. With the less strong ones it might take longer and will likely need a second or even third application. Given how wynns combustion chamber cleaner can looks like it looks like an alternative but i haven't heard of it until now.

Can you order Kreen through Ubuy in Spain?
I've used LM Diesel Purge to clean injectors and prechambers, but I don't know if it would work as a piston soak.
Acetone/ATF mix is a popular penetrating oil. It might do some good.
