Curious if anyone here has any firsthand experience with the Pirelli P7 AS Plus 3 grand touring all season tires:

TireRack testing suggests they are very refined yet "athletic," which I feel would be a perfect fit for my BMW E90. However, it seems that they don't perform well in the wet, and I'm wondering if it's too much of a compromise for the rainy PNW. Any feedback or experience?

For reference, I will be replacing aging Pirelli P Zero All Season Plus UHP AS tires. Loved how sporty these tires were without compromising NVH, but unfortunately their successor does not come in the required size (225/45R17). I'm also thinking a GT tire is more appropriate with how the car is mainly used now.

No, these are all season tires aim for comfort. In its category it's good, but for performance tire? Probably inadequate.
For your reference, I had broken its dry traction several times when trying to do a quick 90-degree turn from dead stop. My electric motor's peak torque is 151 lb-ft 🤷‍♂️

The Pirelli AS Plus 3 was tested in 265/70R117 115T SL? All others in 215/55/17? Typo?

Must be a typo as they don't seem to come in that size:

those are minivan tires or sonata tires, not bmw tires IMO.

I was worried that a GT tire would be inadequate. If I stick with UHP AS tires, then I think Conti DWS 06 Plus are the leading choice, but I've read poor feedback on their steering feel (pun intended). It's really too bad Pirelli limited the available sizes as the new P Zero AS Plus 3 seems to be more of what I loved.

Great GT tire based on my observations. The Continental sure, but more sporty. I am straying away from Michelin due to recent experiences with subpart performance in noise, wear, and traction, in this order.

Audi has spec'd the P7 as an OE tire. ;)

I have a nearly worn out set from the previous owner who liked to stick with OE stuff, but it isn't driven the same way my BMW is, so they haven't stood out, in a good or bad way. The Audi is so numb in feel anyway, which negates a lot of what a sportier tire would bring. But it's great at comfortably cruising the highway all day long, in keeping with a mid-sized exec sedan.

But if the OP is accustomed to a more sportier tire from the P0 line, they may be a let down.

Personally, I wouldn't have any loyalty to Pirelli, and go for the popular Conti.

I think it was wishful thinking expecting the P7 to perform similarly to a P Zero with better comfort. Their poor wet performance may be a deal breaker too.

My only complaint with my current P Zero AS+ is their poor NVH when temperatures drop below 45F. I think the Conti DWS06+ may be the perfect UHP AS tire for the PNW. I'm curious if their successor is coming out soon - it's been a few years now.

If you are looking at the DWS, the Michelin Pilot A/S is in that family as well. I’ll agree, I had a set of DWS-06s which I returned - and they were numb at the wheel. Tire Rack’s top tire right now is a Pirelli, (or the Michelin CC2), but the latest Pirelli A/S sport tire isn’t even listed yet on TR’s website. You might want to check different vendors to see if there are differences in sizes and availability. That top-rated Pirelli looks very interesting.

I have a set of continental ATs (light duty for an AT) on my pickup, which always struggles on wet roads. Hands down, the continental rubber, while it doesn’t look special by any means, has been the best wet pavement tire I’ve had on it, 2 sets. I have to over-inflate by a few psi to firm them up a little. Continental doesn’t do firm sidewalls.

Being in the PNW, I wouldn’t hesitate to look at the Michelin CC2 as well. We had a set on a Lexus RWD and a prior CRV. Their stop/go and snow traction was all top-notch. They lost a little on lateral grip, which in a RWD (such as your bimmer) was a benefit as it made gentle oversteer approachable on those days where it was needed - was a fun tire with gobs of practicality as well.

I found the Conti dw6 to be mediocre on my wife’s Mercedes sedan. Poor treadwear, did not excel at anything really.
Have the P7 asplus3 on a Mercedes SUV. Not a sport tire, but quiet, good in rain and light snow, tracks well, just generally a good tire, but not really sporty.

Recently installed these on my GLK250. I've only got about 1k miles on them but they seem excellent, albeit a tad bit hard (XL rated).
