Not sure the "area of town", I'm all turned around here :)

Richmond & Gessner, in the Westchase District.

Yes, a lot cheaper! Saved $1K in rent (nice 1800sqft home), $30/mo in car insurance, about $1/gallon in gas, and my home office is a very close commute (wife's is 3.5 miles away)....food is cheaper, too! We like it so far.

Welcome to Houston and the WestChase district! I'm in the Westchase area also. If you need any tips on restaurants, tool places, etc., give me a PM.

as far as the air filter goes. with a fuel injected engine, the air filter will NOT make a difference. Unlike carborated cars of ancient times. Fuel injected cars adjust the amount of fuel to match the amount of air coming in. Most cars, will always maintain a set A/F ratio (somewhere around 13:1 - 14:1, more rich than necessary). If your moving van is a diesel on the other hand, definitely change the air filter. Diesels do not have a set A/F ratio. They take in as much air as possible, and add only the amount of fuel necessary for the power desired.

Just finished a 2,500 mile trip (Dayton, OHIO to Portland, OREGON) in a 2006 (with 80,000 miles on it!) 16" Penske gas van (GMC 6.0) that was about 2/3rds full, no tow: Ran like a champ, air conditioning on most of the trip, averaged 11.2 mpg on regular unleaded, worst tank was on (you guessed it!) oxygenated 10% ethanol, also the most expensive.

That's over the Rockies via Denver, Rawlings, Twin Falls, etc.

Van cost $968, gas cost a little less. Two PODS door-to-door were almost $1K more and I still would have had to fly there and back to load/unload.

Cheers!

Very nice Norm! I say that the 16' Penske is a winner. I should have also mentioned that there was not 10 minutes of use when the A/C was NOT on full-blast. Killer truck, killer price, and a valuable tool for a great move and trip. +1 for Penske.
