Pictures under a valve cover

Unfortunately, the G35 VQ35DE engine has a similar problem with spark plug tube seals becoming hard and brittle too. But that's not the bad news. You have to replace the whole valve cover to replace the tube seals. I had to replace one at 60K (outside of warranty), so I've got my fingers crossed that ARX keeps me from having to replace another one.

If you own a VQ35DE engine and are still under warranty, check your sparkplugs today. It may save you a bundle of money!

Just my thoughts...on the OP's picture, that looks fine to me. A little varnish isn't going to hurt anything, there's no sludge, and it looks like flow isn't hindered anywhere. Looks like a properly running engine to me

Well, thanks for all the feedback. The engine does run fine, all the way to red line.

Only one problem, now I have oil leaking out the back of the valve cover. Was leaking out the front, before. I guess I got something tightened down wrong. Too much, I guess. I've read something like 17 ft-lbs is all that's needed, and I don't have a torque wrench.

Time to get one. They're not too expensive and come in handy in lots of places (spark plugs, wheel lugbolts, drain plugs, oil filters, etc.) Overtorquing some stuff can have pretty expensive consequences.

9-5 is a known sludger. Bad PCV system. The 900 got nothing but M1 but I switched grades: 5W30, 10W30, 0W40...

The 9-5 gets whatever I feel like. Mostly M1 but every now and then some crazy stuff. Lots of arx, too. Heck, it WAS worse.

I have this same mitsu engine in two of my cars. 2003 and 2004 chrysler 2 door coupe sebring made by mitsubishi.

I am amazed at how clean the oil keeps between filter changes.

My owners manual says 4.2 quarts and 4.5 quarts with filter, but I am only able to use 4.0 quarts with filter. It brings the oil level up to top full mark. The dipstick on this engine is rather thin and takes 3 bends before it gets to the pan. I have found the you have to insert it with a little force or else it bends/binds in the tube and doesn't go all the way down.

Jaymus... Don't mean to hi-jack the thread, but it would be cool if anyone that has pictures under their valve covers or oil pans to post their pictures and then mention the oil they used and with what change intervals...

Auto-Rx will do a good job of cleaning the ring packs as well as reconditioning seals and removing varnish, but maybe not the staining in the pores of the cast aluminum.

I recommend the Auto-Rx; I've had very good success with it in both engines and transmissions. If you use Auto-Rx, please post before and after compression readings, and any subjective impressions of where the engine feels smoother and peppier (mine did) as well as any fuel mileage changes you note. My Volvo turbo engine oil consumption was 1/4 what it was before the A-Rx cleaning, the engine ran smoother, and the turbo boost gauge rose more quickly when I mashed the throttle.

Pictures! Post PICTURES! I've had a lot of people tell me how great my arx before after pics were. It took no time at all and was fun to do! Try to take the before/afters from the same perspective and if you do oil filters, let them hang dry for a couple of weeks. Then download to your computer and upload to the net via Picasa or Photobucket.

Didn't think you were... Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware of this...

Winter is definitely changed. I wonder how long it will be before we only see winters like the west coast sees. (Mild, little snow, nothing below -10oC)
