Ok got some questions. First the inlet holes. Does the different inlet hole have a effect on anything. The spring on the Amsoil and pureone are both covered, but the one on the KN is not. What effect does this have?
heres the pics enjoy

Holes and springs make no difference. What makes the main difference is the type of filter media they use. IMHO the Amsoil EaO is the best one of these three.

The different designs are just that. Slightly different designs, but the biggest difference is in the performance of the media, something that you cannot see even if you cut the filters apart, as many do, and measure the surface area, count the pleats, etc. Industry standard ASTM tests are much more reliable benchmarks to compare these filters. If only every company would publish these results so we could may true comparisons!

The number/size of holes in the base plate and the construction of the bypass valve on these 3 filters will not affect the quality of filtration and flow of oil as much as the differences in the media type, IMO. The 2 on the right are built like tanks, with very heavy duty can. The purolator is thinner metal and a lighter filter, but still made well. And less than half the cost of the other two.

I was hoping that we were going to see the media although that does not tell us much either it's just interesting to see the different syn medias. With these premium filters it is cost prohibitive to cut them open unused and with extended OCIs it might take 18 months to use these three up. I do save a 3x3 inch patch from some that I have cut apart (used) and put the patch in a ziplock baggie. Number of pleats and Sq. in. is not that telling with the syn media since they have so much depth to them compared to paper. The % of 10 or 15 micron particles captured in a test fluid seems to be something only a high cost elaborate test fixture could do. So I guess we are at the mercy of the manufacturers. All that said I bet all three of these are pretty good compared to paper media with respect to capture and holding capacity.

Very nice. So does the Pureone still use cellulose or have they gone to something more advanced? Interesting that the media for this auto K&N looks different from the one I use on the motorcycle which is burgundy, similar in color to their oiled air filters. The Amsoil sure looks thicker to me than the Purone media. I realize there is a wire mesh in the Amsoil but it still looks thicker. But both are listed as .030. Media is typical of what I have seen in that the synthetics are less densly packed (open) pleats.

It's an anti-slip coating, easy to grab and turn, similar to the dearly-departed AAP totalgrip filters. Very handy.
