These pictures are from last year when I swapped a FB25 from a wrecked 2016 Forester into my 2011 Forester. I tore the engine down and did a reseal before installing it. The only things I didn’t reseal were the head gaskets and lower oil pan. Unknown oil history, but this thing is very clean in my opinion.

It sees nothing but Amsoil Signature Series now.
 
Any chance you tore the 2011 engine down a bit? I'd be curious to see how it looks even in the condition it was in. Perhaps a clean engine but the cylinders/rings were just toast resulting in poor compression and oil burning?

Looks like you got a good one with that 2016...looks good!
 
The original 2011 engine is sitting in my garage for a tear down project someday… when it happens I will post a thread for it.

I suspect it was more than just stuck rings because those early FB series engines consumed a lot of oil right from the factory in most cases. It was more a defective ring issue to my understanding.
