pickup cap glass - smashed

My snow blower rolled back and smashed the glass window of the cap. Will my insurance glass coverage cover this?

Best place to get this kind of glass? Maybe replace the rear frame & glass?

You will have to decide if the deductible and the claim are worth filing on insurance vs just fixing it. If you have another claim later , like windshield or weather damage, will your rates get jacked up. I had a side glass on my previous suv( escape) get broken, and i filed it as it was around $1000 ( crazy). If i could have fixed it for say $500, i would have out of pocket.

But where to look for a replacement? The cap manufacturer? Local glass company? Places that sell truck caps?

Sometimes plexiglass can be used to replace the other in the same frame.

Call some glass repair shops.

I don't think plexiglass as good option. As plexiglass is a plastic. But usu of glass is better option as its a amorphous solid, an inorganic compound which is cooled liquid to a solid without passing through a crystalline state.

Website of your cap maker is a good start. Likewise I am sure a glass company can handle the repair too.

I am not having a lot of luck here. The cap is a Fedco and they are out of business. Most cap companies make the cap and buy the door. The door size should be on the door, but I cannot find it. You need the size and angle.

I do not want plexiglass. There may be a glass company that can cut glass and then send it out to be tempered.

I know it's not an ideal option, but have you checked any wreckers? Another option may be to put an ad up on a classified site. You may be surprised at how many rural people might have an old truck with a topper (or just a topper) sitting around doing nothing. At least it's worth a shot.

If it's flat glass it should be super easy. I would check with a glass company; they should not have a problem measuring and cutting your trapezoid.

OTOH it took me forever to sell my old cap for $35, I just didn't want it (it came with a used truck) and didn't know if the dump would take it.

It needs to be tempered after its cut.

Glass companies can cut safety glass (laminated windshield type) to any shape you want as long as its flat glass. I had this done an a 49 ford pickup. Besides the windshield they also cut a door glass and the small rear window.
