Most folks who use the old DE razors for daily use clean them well.
Here is my routine.
Scrubbing Bubbles gets rid of any soap scum build up and sterilizes it pretty well- spray let sit scrub, w/toothbrush repeat,follow up with dunk in bleach water and and a spraydown with Listerine type mouthwash, repeat and then rinse well with hot water.You can always buy some Barbicide or Marvicide sterilizing solution for use.
Most drug stores and beauty supply stores have blades.Wilkinson Sword is good,as are Derby's
and Personna's.Dorco's/Korean blades are hit or miss.Go on Amazon and you can pick up blades really cheap a year to two years worth of blades for less than 20 dollars.

All I have ever had to do to keep my Merkur clean is a wipe down with a dry microfiber rag. The razor is made of chrome plated brass. The top piece started losing just a bit of its plating a few years ago. An email to Merkur got me a new part for free. The razor still looks as it did the day I bought it.

Some of the older razors have embedded soap scum, along with some corrosion. Given that there can be Staphylococcus, bacteria, and viruses embedded on a razor by scraping bits of your skin, I think I'll continue to both clean and sterilize.
I'll keep my personal hygiene standards, and you can keep yours.

No problem with cleaning your razors, I think you took me a little wrong. I too clean all my razors when purchased, not a bad thing to do at all. We had one poster claiming he thru a razor away every time he shaved, to me that's a little over the top, but hey, its his money, not mine.
Most germs and viruses die within hours/days of drying out but its still a good idea to disinfect a used razor, I know I do.
What is a slime ball, can't help you there other than I see a
few most every time I go shopping.
There I fixed it with an extra (e), but I bet you knew what I ment anyway!

That's one of the old Gillette Adjustables, a Fat Boy I think. They also made a ligter model commonly called a Slim these days. Neither has been made for decades, & prices are usually out of sight on Ebay auctions. Check your local thrift stores, garage, yard, & estate sales. And don't turn up your nose at the non-adjustable old Gillettes either. They may not seem as cool as the adjustables, but even the plain old 3-piece Techs(the heavy ones, not the latter day aluminums), as well as the non-adjustable silo-door models like the Red Tip, Blue Tip, plain jane "silvertip", & the Aristocrat will give excellent shaves, equal to(maybe even better than) the adjustables. If you do get an adjustable, start at 2 or 3 unless you have skin like tough leather.

BTW- my most often used razor these days is an old Gillette New(that's the model name), 3-piece, short-toothed comb, Canadian made, circa mid-late 1930s, with all the original gold plating worn off long before I got it. Still shaves great.

The Gillette Slim Adjustable is available on E-Bay for $45 w/buy it now. That's probably cheaper in todays money than what they sold for new.
