Picked up a new “toy” today

First thing I did was take the yellow chain of my 271. I put a 20” bar and green chain on mine. If you know how to handle a saw you should be fine…. I like the cut of the green chain. It’s like a hot knife through butter.

Just my $0.02

Out of curiosity what didn’t you like about the cut with the yellow?

That goes against general experience. Green safety chains cut a tiny bit less well than yellow non safety chains (tiny, because Stihl executes safety chains very well). The difference between Stihl semi chisel and chisel chain is very small also. Maybe he changed some other variable, i.e., dull vs. sharp? Maybe his definition of "hot knife through butter" differs from my impression. Maybe his saw does run a bit better on the slightly less aggressive green safety chain on a 20 inch bar?

A longer bar will cut a bit slower than a shorter bar (in general, same engine) because there is more chain (drag) for that engine to handle.

Again: 4 variable chains we are comparing
green chain comes in semi chisel and chisel
yellow chain comes in semi chisel and chisel

My 271 never gives me issues. I pull it on full choke until it barks, usually 2 pulls. Then half choke it usually goes the first pull. I give it some throttle and off to work.

Oh I getcha........I'm not the one who owns like 7 of them and has no idea how to start them. I just show up and make them run on another property! The blower and string trimmers that I own fire up instantly; I simply don't own a chainsaw.

I got it backwards sorry. Try to talk to my wife and posting is probably a bad thing... :ROFLMAO:

I use nothing but the non safety chains (yellow). I have used the green chain that came with the saw some it just cuts slower IMO.

no, you are right, see my reply to @mattd above, apparently my wife is right walking and chewing gum is not my forte... :ROFLMAO:

Yes the yellow chain on a 20" bar makes the 271 work but it still does a great job. When I put the 16" bar on with the yellow chain it is crazy how fast it cuts.
