Got a new card with a new number from Medicare today. They said since my number had been involved in a dats breach two years ago, they are issuing me a new card with a new number. Has anyone else gotten a new card?

What a coincidence that you should share this. Earlier this week I got a call from a guy that claimed to be calling from Medicare. I was suspicious from the start, because the call supposedly originated from Moab, UT, a place known only for recreation, not for call centers.

He claimed that Medicare is sending out new cards, and I should have received mine by now. He asked me to give him the number on it, so he could verify if it was the new card or old card. I told him that I knew it was the original Medicare card that I had received, and I knew this because I am not stupid.

He hung up on me. That sure was unprofessional of a Medicare representative, to hang up on me.

My wife had hers replaced this month after her doctor said they were getting some bogus faxes with her number on it.

Mine came with stationery that matched in every detail the stationery that came with my first alpha numeric card. Nobody called . It just came in the mail in an official government envelope.

Good post.
As another also posted, you never have a conversation with anyone calling you. Doesnt matter who they say they are.
You get a call from a government agency, simply hang up or tell them to mail the information. If it was legit which it is not, it would come in the mail, NEVER a phone call.
Another thing. if anyone does not have their medicare online account set up, you should, I assumed everyone does but I guess not.
It's the greatest tool in the world and a government agency that truly works for you. It certainly simplifies checking and comparing plans as well.

ALWAYS REMEMBER A GOVERNMENT WEBSITE ALWAYS ENDS WITH .GOV AND NEVER .COM, .NET., .US ETC

Any such calls, whether from credit card company, medicare, ss, police, utility or whatever, are automatically fraud calls for me. They get no information at all. If they sound at all serious, I log into the account and check or look up the phone number and call. Same goes for emails.
