I picked up a non-working Firman 3650 generator as a emergency back up for $150. Seller said it was hardly used, and because the pull cord was broke, he could not start it. He said he did not know the hours. I replaced the pull cord, cleaned the carb, and changed the oil (it was dirty and only about 350cc) Got it started and it had low voltage, about 85 volts. bought a new AVR and that is now fixed. It seems to run okay.

It has over 400 hours, and that seems like a lot. My question, how long can these Chonda engines last? Anyone have one with high hours? Champion or Firman seem to be about the same quality

Would be nice if you could edit your own message. Chonda engiones but its to late now.

Chondas can last, the machining is fine but metallurgy is questionable. I prefer to use something like 0/5w-40. I run 15w-40 in my kohler and honda motors. Have one chonda gen and I have 5w-40.
