Picked up a new Mazda 3

I owned a 2012 Mazda3 with the 2.0L Skyactiv and the six speed manual. I had it for a little over three years and 35k miles. I can say it was the most fun to drive vehicle I’ve owned, other than maybe a 73 Super Beetle for purely nostalgic reasons. I drove it far more aggressively than I should have and it was a blast.

I traded it on my 2016 Mazda6 only because I hit a deer with it and decided I didn’t want to own a vehicle long-term that would probably have paint issues in a few years. The only reason I went with a 6 instead of another 3 was because by then all the 3’s being imported were from Mexico while the 6’s were still Japanese.
Glad I went with the hatch model these are made in Hofu Japan

I loved my 2007 Mazdaspeed 3; if Mazda still sold Mazdaspeed versions there would almost certainly be one in my garage.
The current Mazda3 GT Turbo would be a completely different car if the Mazdaspeed division was still going. I imagine that version would first of all be available with a manual transmission. But also it would have ended up with a better suspension and brakes. And it would likely also make even more power than it does and would be closer to 300 horsepower with 350-370 lb ft of torque. That would have been incredible! Mazda lost its “zoom zoom” when they dissolved the Mazdaspeed division 😥

Yeah it seems those days are over for us guys and dolls that enjoy a quick factory tuned box. Growing up I always wanted the Mazdaspeed Proteg'e just at the wrong time in my life was too young no coin in pocket. But absolutely there's no need for any manufacturer to kill off a factory tuned division It appears Mazda wants a (grown up) look like how I read they wanted the new CX-90 to compare and compete with an X5. Maybe there's a future for Mazda to reincarnate the zoom-zoom and speed back into their DNA.

If for some reason I need to buy a new car, the Mazda3 is the first car on my list to look at. We bought a used 2001 Miata for my wife. I do all the maintenance on the car. I really like the way the car is built and the way it drives. I have become a Mazda fan because of this car.

Just don’t look at the very newest stuff. The direction doesn’t look good.

I kept my 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 about a year longer than I planned because I kept hearing rumors of an AWD MS3 with over 300hp- which of course didn’t materialize. As I understand it, the suits at Mazda ditched the Mazdaspeed division because they wanted to build more “mature” vehicles.

Any pictures with the tint? That should look real good with the color of the car.

That's 30% my night vision isn't the greatest and if it wasn't for the possibility of the local police I should have went a smidge darker but that would be over the legal limit.

had a 2021 Mazda 3 Sedan Gt Turbo AWD. it is still my favorite Mazda. in person i find them prettier than the Hatchback version and they have more interior space, better rear visibility and they are also a tiny bit quicker than the Hatchback Version. they have the best steering of the entire Mazda lineup including Miata. mine was made in Japan. while i love my 2024 CX-5 Signature, it ain't as fun to drive. next year i will trade for a new Turbo Mazda 3 Sedan. the rear suspension setup showed it's limits only when driven very fast on a twisty bumpy road. Mazda did an incredible job tuning this thing. the term sleeper is thrown around often, but the Turbo Sedan AWD version of the Mazda 3 is legit Sleeper.

The rear suspension reminds me of the Scion IA which used a twist beam setup that too for a compact car had a remarkably compliant ride and nimble handling though the 3 is more refined. I lived in upstate Ny at the time I loved finding twisty mountain roads it’s a vehicle you could drive quick but not feel like you’re going to kill yourself similar to a Miata experience. That little scion would love to stick its inside rear wheel up in the air
