After my 2005 Nissan Xterra kicked the bucket (knock knock, who’s there? Rod knock) I was searching high and low for Used 4Runners and Tacomas. Unfortunately most were out of my price range, It wasn’t until my co worker told me his grandfather was downsizing cars and was interested in selling his 2003 4Runner. With some negotiation we agreed to $4000! It’s a limited model with all the bells and whistles, it’s 2WD but I live in Fl so no need for it really. 215k miles. The biggest thing going for it, absolutely RUST free! I’m in disbelief I own a 4Runner now.

Good truck, good deal, good Cat! Enjoy!

Congrats.

I'd make sure the cooling system is in top shape, with fresh coolant. Early Single VVTi 1GR-FE engines were more susceptible to blown headgaskets. They changed the headgasket design in late 2005, and then also made changes to the block (along with just about everything else) in later Dual VVTi 1GR-FE's.

Yes I’m aware of the HG issues! Radiator, hoses, and coolant were all replaced/serviced. I’ll definitely keep an eye on it. It’s really my only concern as of now. I’ve driven both variants of the 1GR and I gotta say I like the single VVTI version more in terms of feel.

I did a quick little “restoration” on my headlights using the 3M Restore and protect kit. Came out okay. I’ll probably end up replacing them down the line. I also hit the fog lamps too, but did not get a picture of them.

Nobody else thinks that 4K for a rather rough 23 YO 215K 4Runner seems a bit rich?
I am probably getting too old to see how this is a deal.
