So I am undecided on the oil and filter I want to run next. I have a 2004 Monte Carlo with the pushrod 3.4l. I was thinking of either running M1/Mobil filter, or PP/extended guard. I would like to keep it under $30.
I just don't feel the need to. An oil change is cheap compared to engine repair. Also, monday-thursday I make 4 2.5 mile trips a day. The engine never really get to operating temp. Friday-sunday I drive 300+ miles, all highway.

Well your Fri-sun drive should burn off any fuel/moisture that has collected in the week, summer time short drives IMO aren't as hard on the oil like winter cold temps are.
Don't get the fram filter, proven time and time againthey aren't as good as many others, especially mobil 1. That's a nice oci though for that engine, from what I've heard, depending on how hard you run it. With your extensive highway miles 5k-7k on mobil 1 green cap 0w30 would look amazing on an oil analyis am I right?
I currently run 5w30 pp and a pf52 sized pureone. LIM gaskets have not been done to my knowledge, but I keep a very close eye on oil and antifreeze consumption and it isn't using any. This car get run decently hard, as I am an 18 year old college student.

While I agree that Fram filters aren't a good choice out of all the Fram filters the Extended Guard have showed to be the best built so in that respect he is picking a good filter.
I know this because Fram is my only choice where I'm at
Go with Mobil 1...the number 1 seller of oil. PP would be a good choice too. Honestly O'Reilly syn with Mobil 1 filter for $18 would be your best bet for 5k
I personally would choose the PP/Fram Extended Guard option.
I used to only run Mobil 1 or Mobil 1 Extended Performance but many car enthusiast forums, BITOG, and even other oil manufacturers have been bringing to light the increased wear metals from Mobil 1 usage. Not just one or two used oil analysis that I have seen proves this but dozens. This has been the trend for several years now and hasn't gotten any better only worse.
That's why I have changed from Mobil 1 to Pennzoil Platinum / Pennzoil Ultra. ANd between Mobil 1 and PP I'd say go with PP.
