Did you acutally read his post? or did you read Fram and just think it's all bad? Tell me why the Extended Guard is not as good as others?

It's built better than most other filter on the market.

To the OP, i would run PP and XG filter

That doesn't apply to the fram that he's looking at

I used to only run Mobil 1 or Mobil 1 EP but many car enthusiast forums, BITOG, and even other oil manufacturers have been bringing to light the increased wear metals from Mobil 1 usage. Not just one or two UOA's that I have seen proves this but dozens. This has been the trend for several years now and hasn't gotten any better only worse.

That's why I have changed from Mobil 1 to PP/PU. ANd between Mobil 1 and PP I'd say go with PP.

UOA's are NOT GOOD INDICATORS OF ENGINE WEAR.

I don't agree with this statement at all. I had a 99 Grand AM GT. First year for the 3400. The engine lasted me 50K miles before my LIM gasket went out and destroyed my engine. The car was 2 years old and I did not beat on it. The dealer blamed the issue on me saying that I "race" it and put stress on the engine. If you didn't catch this issue quick enough and it will cost $3,400 for a new engine. I know too many people who had a 99 or 00 that had the engine replaced out of pocket.

Thanks for the help guys. The intake gasket do not fail due to driver abuse. They fail because of a poor design of the gasket. They failed on the 3100, 3400, 3800, and 4.3l engines (maybe more. Those are just the ones I'm aware of).

So I was going to go with PP/ xtended guard filter. But after looing at the fram, I was turned away. The end of the can has no flutes to use my filter wrench on. So I ended up going with PP/bosch filter.

Either of the oil filters you have considered would work just fine.
Many of us who have had cars for decades used Frams for decades, without issue.
PP is certainly a good choice, but M1 would be as well.
I am with you on the 5K change, but bear in mind that should life intrude, and should it be convenient to go longer, the engine will be fine for a couple thousand more with either oil.
There is a better than even possibility that the LIM gaskets will leak on this engine.
If you ever see mayo on the dipstick, the likely cause is LIM gasket failure.
From what I understand, if this is fixed promptly, your engine should last for a very long time.
