Cut open PIAA oil filter with a specialised tool for the first time. It was clean inside. What I didnt like was when I removed filter there was almost no oil inside, even though filter is mounted sideways. Its like the ADBV doesnt work. I noticed this with the ENEOS filters too. Maybe thats why after a week of parking, on restart the low oil pressure light stays on for a few seconds. I am now on a WIX filter, will observe if it does a better job keeping oil inside from draining back.

Overall I didn't find metal pieces in the filter.

First time seeing a can oil filter with a double stack filter element.

Can you separate them and give us pictures of each side of the matting surface?
Oh man, too late bro, I threw away at my local gas station.
if its any help

I had no idea that PIAA made oil filters. I only thought they made fog lights.

Nice work and pictures. Thank You

gonna check these out, the filter on the MG is mounted with the faceplate up, so ADBV isn't important.
The ADBV is still important if there are oil galleries in the engine that are above the oil filter, regardless of the filter mounting orientation.

They all are, but the oil would have to drain out through the vane style oil pump, that would take time. The oil pump is in the sump, so no risk of that losing prime thankfully If not every day, I run the car every other day. Won't the galleries drain through the crank bearings by themselves?

But I don't think that filter is made in my fitment, nor readily available.

FWIW, I take the filters that I cut open and wrap the media in a couple layers of paper towels. I might have to rotate once or twice, but the towel wicks out a good portion of the oil. Then I can look into the pleats for junk with a minimum of oil.

Maybe depending on engine design and how long it sits. I've stored cars and motorcycles in the winter months for 5-6 months without ever starting them, and in the spring on first start-up I get oil pressure as fast as if they sat overnight. Many here have seen filters and galleries above the filter drain, which could be from a leaky ADBV and/or simply the engine's oiling system design. Bottom line is a good ADBV is going to be better than having one that leaks or not having one at all.

always better, I sure don't like to hear the effects of no oil pressure on startup, or see a low oil pressure light

I’ve always wanted to try one of these but I have no idea which one to get. I can’t find a cross reference for a fl910s or a fl400s
