PH8A made by Champ in Mexico?

I purchased a Motomaster OE Plus PH8A filter and from the printing on the filter looks like it’s a Champ, but it’s made in Mexico instead of the USA. It has a recognizable 6 holes, where one hole is larger than the other 5. Plus it has “ AA “ stamped on the plate. I recall seeing this before on this forum. Anyone recall the design?

Yep, looks like a Champion Labs made filter ... printing on the dome pretty much just a Champion Labs style.

I haven't seen much about these written or discussed. While I was at my local CrankyTred aka CanadianTire I looked into these and brought one home.

The numbers are mostly Fram based but have a twist.

MOPH****: is used for the can filters, basically MoFram!

MOCH****: is used for the cartridge filters.

It can make things fun when searching. The selection covers the popular filters right now, so they don't cover the full range. I wanted a 4386, but they only have the 3614 as the closest equivalent.

I looked at the PH3600 and PH2870a, and the base plates and cans were identical. The 3614...

I am going to guess that a broken punch in the die was replaced and the one available was larger. Or possibly all the others are worn that much.

Its also possible its an index mark, for assembly orientation. It seems unlikely orientation on assembly would matter, but its possible there is a tab or notch used for some assembly process?

For sure it is not an E Core. It has a metal inner tube with louvers. The louvers are quite expanded and you can see the folds of the filter material with this camera angle. A few louvers are not opened enough.

Looks like a classic Champ Labs filter with silicone ADBV, looks like the Mobil 1 filters Champ used to make. Appears better made than most FB filters these days-how much $CDN for this one?
