PH2808 - Is this a Champ Filter?

I am doing some background investigating on where my wife changed oil a few years ago.

I found an invoice from Cosco (Canada) and it says they out on a PH2808 oil filter. From google it looks like Champ makes is but its not conclusive.

Is there a way to confirm/find out?

Also, is this filter any good? Because she wants to take her car for Castrol Syntec to Cosco and looks like they are still using this filter. Thanks

The PH2808 filter is a Champion Labs filter which is used on several vehicles such as Honda, Hyundai and so on. The filter should be fine for 3000 to 5000 miles based on your OCI.

Why is this this information so important.....especially since it happened a few years ago?

Its important because she has been going there for the life of the car so far (77.500KM), and recently i took over her vehicle and we got her something else. Since i am now learning more and more about the adverse affects of oil and filters through this site i am contemplating my future oil changes at cosco.

I do not believe OEM hyundai filters are made by anyone else but hyundai/kia, I have one ready to go for this weekends oil change and it looks purely authentic. If you look inside there us a valve with the Hyindai "H" logo etched right on top of that valve for clear view. I doubt OEM subs would care to pay more money to have the valve, which sits inside the filter and is not noticeble to anyone except thos who know its there, etched with the logo.

It also has an OEM plastic/cellophane heat shrunk on the open end of the filter, OEM made in Korea stamp and OEM sealed box.

From the searches i have done on this site-everyone agrees that those filters are top notch.

The "champ"-to-be-proved filter is white on the outside, cant see any writing from where i am looking...

The ph 2808 is indeed a Kia/Hyundai filter application, dont know about it being a Honda filter either. Use a ton of that filter at work, no problems with that ph 2808 filter yet.

We cut open one of these ph 2808 champ labs filters, and NO it is not a E-Core filter also so you know. Still isnt a e core filter as of yet, kinda surprised as its in the 3" and up filter size category.

OK so its OEM equivalent, not that Hyundai Dealers use them. its obvious i guess since thats what the invoice says from cosco.

So 3-5K Mi,go it, we always go 8000KM on this car with Syntec, which is 5000 Miles. Thanks for the replies

Plastic center cage with large gaps, and non-metal end caps. Something you probably want to stay away from.

Most of champ labs filters like a PH 3614, PH 500, PH 400, PH 820 and 253, others that are 3" in diameter I believe use a hard, rigid, center core that other filter manufacturers use a steel center core. The "E" in E CORE stands for environmentally friendly I think. I like a Purolator, Group 7(which is still made by Purolator filters) and a WIX filter. Also Super Tech which is Wal Marts house brand filter; some of their filters like above mentioned are fram numbering system; those are also E core filters. A filter thats for my car; is a ST 7317; which in a fram is a ph 7317, so a ST 7317 isnt a e core, it has a steel center tube as its much smaller than 3" diameter. Wix numbering system for my car is a 51356. At my work; which is a rental car company, they are very cheap, so they use cheap filters like CHAMPION LABS filters. We have had 4 engines blow up due to oil filters that leaked at the seams. When I take the ST 7317 filter off my car, I plan to cut it open and use a GROUP 7 oil filter thats a 4610#

Champ makes a filter for Firestone that is called a 2808. It is found on many Honda, Hyundai, and Mitsubishi cars starting in the 1980s, and gradually getting replaced by a Champ 2876 as years went by.
