As a follow up post to Odie, here are the test results for the "Store Brand" DINO oils. These oils were sampled, for 5w30, SM GF-4 oils at selected stores LAST YEAR. I wish that the NAPA oil was in the selection....but it's not?

Advance Auto, Auto Zone and another, (Pro-Line), oil look very similar. Might be the same add pack that Castrol and Valvoline uses with the reading of the high sodium count.... But who knows for sure?

They all look like fine oils for those BITOG who love to do the regular 3K - 4K OCI.

Looks to me like the Warren Dino Oil uses more Boron and has a higher sulfur content and is higher in Nitrogen than the SuperTech.

However, The SuperTech has a lot more MOLY than the Warren oil. Very different add packs between the Warren and SuperTech.

It also looks to me like the Advance Auto, Auto Zone and Pro Line Dino Oils are very similar.....even very similar to Castrol and Valvoline as far as Add packs.

Right on with that SuperTech. Looks like a really good Dino Oil and most likely the same as the Top Tier oils that are discussed on the Forum.

With that 152 ppm of Moly and the add pack....it looks like Mobil 1. I think that the Mobil 1 Dino is around 150 ppm for MOLY. Maybe the same add pack and base oil? It could be the same? Looks like a good Dino for 5K to 6K like Mobil Super Clean 5000.

They are most likely is the same as Valvoline. From what I can determine...Ashland makes the oil blend and add packs for many different distribution networks. So what is in product bottle A....most likely has most, if not all of the elements in product bottle B. Looks like Ashland searches all over the world for the best deals on oil.....

All Mobil 1 products are fully synthetic. The conventional oils are sold under the Mobil (no 1) label.

The Super Tech oil in that test was made by Exxon-Mobil.

Mobil dropped the "Clean" from the name with the rename to "Super".

IMO....the SuperTech Dino, sold at Walmart, looks like Exxon Mobil Dino oil. The elements in SuperTech, when you compare them, are the same as Mobil 5000 or as they call it now Mobil Super.

The Dino oils of Advance Auto Parts, Auto Zone and Proline have the same elements as Valvoline/Ashland/Castrol. Take a look at all the elements...especially the sodium...they are all in the ballpark

IMO....these are the all the same Dino oils as Valvoline/Castrol.

All quality oils at half the price and good for 5K OCI.

These are not the same oils.XOM does and or has made oil for Walmart but they are not the same.If the bottom of the ST bottle has a "WPP" or "WNE" on the bottom,it is made by WPP.

If the ST bottle has a lid like XOM,it is made by XOM but it is not the same as Mobil 5000/Super.

Warren Oil Company and WPP are companies that actually make their own oils. They buy the base stock from a company such as XOM or Shell and they then mix the oil and sell it under their own product names.

Warren/Unilube and WPP also manufacture oil for others such as Super Tech and other labels.WPP is a supplier of Super Tech and has been for some time.

You cant tell who makes what oil by looking at it and you will most likely find similar additives in most oils but they are made by several companies.

While I agree that some of the private label oils are good,Super Tech being one,I would not go as far to say that they are all as good.

I also would not say that they are all good for 5K miles.Again,ST is probably ok for such but I would be wary of most others.

Warren/Unilube has had problems with Advance house brand in the past.I am not sure but I think that Warren/Unilube makes the house oil for Autozone and may even make Proline.

You can e-mail Warren/Unilube and probably find out.

I need to clarify something in my above post.

Advance did have trouble with their oil a few years ago.It was made by Coastal/Unilube at the time.Coastal/Unilube was bought by Warren Oil Company and is now called,Warren/Unilube.

It depends on if it is made by just one company.Either way,it is most likely very close to being the same oil.If it is made by one company,it probably is the exact same.
