Petro-Canada oils sold at gas stations are vastly overpriced. You have to generally buy case quantities from bulk plants, Arctic 0W-30 is $4.90 per litre in 12 by 1 litre cases, other synthetic grades are closer to $7 I believe.
Duron Synthetic 0W-30, which in my opinion, although thicker is a better oil is $6.25 per litre in 12 litre cases. It is slightly higher in ash and ZDDP than SM rated oils, a slightly thicker 30 weight at temperature, and has a pour point of -51 with a cold crank viscosity at -30 of 3,192 centipoise which is better than any 5W oil at that temperature, and is thin enough at -35 to rate as a 0W oil with performance nearing that of Mobil 1 0W-30.
It is SM rated but not GF-4, as it is rated as a diesel oil. It is a fairly high quality group III base oil.
That stuff is everything but a compromise, HT/HS of 3.3, 0W cold performance, 1200 ppm ZDDP, high detergent, and a TBN of 9.2.
It isn't a XD-3 0W-30 but it is comparable, and I think this is an oil that could run 7500 miles/12000 km in most vehicles without getting out of breath.
I want to see if they can roll that performance into a CJ-4/SM rated Duron-E version comparable to the Duron-E 0W-40.
