Petro Canada Duron 5W40??

How is Petro Canada Duron 5W40 synthetic? How does it stack up against Rotella T6 and Valvoline Premium Blue?

Would you run it in your diesel during the summer with no worries? Will be used in a Massey Ferguson 1635 compact diesel tractor.

The Petro-Canada oils are excellent and I wouldn't hesitate to use them. Do a used oil analysis to see how well it is holding up to help you determine your OCI length.

How good is the full synthetic 5W40 of Lubrication Engineers (Monolec Ultra® Syn Heavy Duty Engine Oil 8854) ?

...Is it actually a fully synthetic engine oil ?

I would think it would be a decent long draining oil. It does fall behind Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5w-40 in starting TBN, for what starting TBN is worth (8.8 for Duron E and 10.1 for Delvac 1). I would suspect the Duron might be priced more competitively.

Lower TBN of modern diesel oils doesn't seem to be a big issue since Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel hit the scene. I did a 24k mile OCI on RT6 last year, and TBN was not close to being at the condemnation level.

You're right, for sure, A-Harman. Without looking too deeply into the matter, I'm guessing Delvac 1's higher TBN has something to do with one or more of the ACEA or European manufacturers' specifications it meets.

Want to run full synthetic Duron 5W40. Tractor gets used year round, from mowing, to running a hydraulic wood splitter, to snowblowing in the winter, to road use, cultivator, roto tiller...
Running Duron syn 5W40 during the summer will be ok? My biggest reason for running synthetic is cold starting. The oil filters are OEM. Awesome dealer, so they get our support.

You will have no problem running the synthetic in the summer. I've seen some OPE manuals, for instance, warn of the possibility of increased consumption using synthetic. I haven't observed that. However, whenever switching lubes, it's a good idea to keep an eye on things. That applies even when not switching lubes.

Synthetics handle heat just fine. That is one of their selling points, after all.
