This one is numero uno in my book.

I usually honk at people that do this right next to me.

How about this:

My wife has this annoying habit of grabbing the doorhandle every time I decide to make a turn, or pass someone!

Now, I know what your'e thinking, I'm a maniac, but she does this no matter what the speed!

My #1 is when someone borrows my tools and doesn't return them!

People that don't recognize "flash to pass".

Doing this is actually one of my pet peeves. Why should I move over?

Simply because you're in the way. Does it matter what speed you're going? Now if it's basically bumper to bumper @ 70 mph ..who cares ..but if you've got room to not be in the left lane ..and someone wants to pass you ..why wouldn't you accomadate them?? You would want the same courtesy extended to you, wouldn't you? No one deserves to be a rolling barricade. It's simple common courtesy.

Most of these pet peeves fall along those lines ..I attempt, if I'm in a "normal" frame of mind, to impact others the way I want to be impacted by them. I don't have the right to take up your time with my idiocy.

Major pet peeve: People who see a walking acquaintance and stop their vehicles to talk to them ..for extended lengths of time ...apparently figuring that you've got nothing better to do then to wait behind them. This is usually limited to undersocialized urban dwellers of various origins. They have no perception that this is something that they don't have the right to make you experience.

Paint chips or drugs ... somewhere some vector, free radical, or pathogen has infected a good part of the gene pool.

In everything ...LEAD, FOLLOW, or GET OUT OF THE WAY!! (this is an assured way to eliminate ROAD RAGE)

Gary,
I'm not in anybody's way. I never sit in the left lane and block a soul. I don't know how the traffic is where you live, but in my neck of the woods the roads are packed 80% of the time. If I drove in the right lane all the time I wouldn't get anywhere. The biggest reason people like to "flash to pass" is to bully others and push you out of the way so that they can speed ahead and push the next poor sap out of THEIR ever important way. I'll just have to disagree with most of you about this. Like I said before, if I'm already going well over the speed limit, nobody is going to make me move over.... unless it's an emergency vehicle OR the freak pulls out a gun.

Andrews,

I'm not here to argue with you per se' ..but what you're saying is ....that YOU are the ultimate authority on the appropriate level of illegal speed on that road at that time.

It's a classic case of: anyone slower than you is an idiot ..anyone faster than you is a maniac.

You're placing yourself in the role of "sensible antisocial behavior"

You would be in the exact same position if you encountered someone doing the speed limit that got in your way. You would be fuming that they inhibited your progress. You would be angry that THEY decided how fast you were going to drive ...just like you're doing for the flasher.

"How dare they make me drive at a lawful speed!! I know how fast I can drive ..NOT them!!"

See what I mean??

In concession, I'll admit that most of us place "us" at the center of propriety and civility. So you're in good company.

It isn't the "law" in my state to only drive in the right lane "except to pass". Slower traffic are advised to keep right but you can still use the left lane as long as you are doing the legal speed limit. It cracks me up how some people feel that the left lane was built just for them. I've driven across this country six times in the past three years and the most rude and annoying jerks on the nations highways are these punks that feel you need to get out of their way, so that they can go as fast as they want. "Flashing to pass" is also ILLEGAL in my state... so that should tell you something about the legitimacy of it.
69 Riv GS, it is highly relevant what speed one is going in ANY lane. If I was doing ninety in the left lane and a guy wants to pass me, we would both get ticketed. And speed also matters when it comes to common sense. It isn't "ettiquete" to get out of a dorks way if you're going well over the limit. The poor "ettiquete" would fall upon the guy trying to treat the highway as his own personal racing track.

i'd move, but please don't move here.

Gary,
I don't put myself in an authoritative position. I drive safely, sensibly, and with regard to others. I draw the line when some punk flashes his lights or rides on virtually everyones butt in the left lane, just so he can get to the next exit before anyone else. Honestly, I am a decent and good driver.... I just hate rude people and will do my part to make them feel the way they try and make others feel.
Labman,
I do show consideration to other drivers. I NEVER flash my lights or push people over by riding on their rear end. The drivers that are rude and inconsiderate are the ones that do the opposite.
Kenw,
Don't worry, I have no plans to move to Houston. From what I hear it's a puss-ball of a city with a much higher than average crime/murder rate.

One advantage of not running at the hairy, ragged edge of what you think will preserve your license, is that you can speed up. I often will if I am out beside somebody with their cruise set one tick slower than mine and I see some one coming up on us. Just give it a little gas and pull in. If there is more traffic in front of me, I can pull back out after they are passed. I am quicker to move out of the way if the person is nice about it, no flashing headlight or getting less than a car length behind me.

Of course the more traffic, the harder it is to make these things work.

The rudest ones of all are the wankers that impede the flow of traffic.

Anyone who wants to control traffic should join their local police force.

If everyone was that considerate, driving would be a lot pleasanter

People in an exact change only toll both who then realize thay don't have exact change and then want to back up
mad.gif
. Only they're 20 cars behind them and they can't so they honk and wait for a toll attended to come out and take their 35 cents. Which could take 10 minutes or more
banghead.gif
. I think that's grounds for justifiable homicide
