Also thinking about experimenting with a different type of oil for the next fill in hopes that may help things as well.

No way that oil or filter are to blame.

Pure One's are excellent filters and exactly what I'm using on my 1GR-FE (I use the slightly longer than stock version), my Civic Si and have used on all of my previous vehicles for going on a decade now.

Pennzoil Platinum is excellent oil and there have been too many to count instances here on BITOG of consistently excellent performance from it.

I concur with you dropping the OCI to 4500 miles but instead of just dumping the oil then you might consider getting a little vacuum pump that you can pull a sample through the dipstick with and send that in and see where you stand before you dump. If the results come back as good as the other 1GR-FEs we see here then I'd keep the oil in and sample ~2,000 miles later and see if all of the sudden wear is accelerating (though I doubt it).

I don't see silicon being a problem currently as it's really low considering how long you ran this oil. There's also no sodium or potassium so it doesn't seem like coolant is getting in there.

Do you idle this engine for more a few seconds from a cold start before you drive it? Do you spend more than a few minutes idling it at stops? Do you move this car in and out of the garage or some situation like this where you start it for a few minutes and then shut it down over and over (which could be throwing a lot of water into the oil and when it condenses it's oxidizing)? Not things I suspect but definitely want to get those off of the table.

There's a problem here and it seems worth chasing down, especially before the warranty is up (5year/60k).

At start up, I usually let it idle for 20-25 seconds before driving (it's parked in the garage during the evenings). My morning commute can be stop and go at times due to traffic congestion. I don't do any quick start/stops with the engine and most of the short trips I take are 5-10 miles.

You've got me stumped. Oil definitely appears shot at this point though, warranting an shorter change interval. You're were almost at 180% of what Toyota recommends.
