Oil = 4.5 qts SuperTech 10k 5w30 mixed w/2 qts VPB "Restore",
OCI = 18 mths & 6900 miles
Full flow filter = OG Fram Ultra XG8A, C&P and posted a few days ago in the oil filter area.
Bypass filter = Amsoil EaBP90 (2nd run)
Air Filter = Fram XGA9683 (2nd run)
PCV changed @ 197K miles

Vehicle 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser w/gasoline 4.0L V6 1GR-FE w/VVTi w/232k miles.
My daily driver since 2009. My use of this vehicle has changed in the last 2 yrs. It gets driven now only about twice a week, rarely roaming more than 8 miles from home.
I have always run regular unleaded (Toyota recommends premium).
It does NOT consume any oil and has never thrown a code. Great low mx vehicle.

Looks like it is getting a little fuel dilution, GC=2.2, and viscosity thinned from 11.1 virgin viscosity of this mix, probably due to the short trips. I sampled it earlier than ever, and changed it now, which is earlier than ever.

Virgin oxidation is 45 and nitration is 6, so that's not a problem.

IN with VR&P 5w30 and a Purolator Boss PBL30001.
Didn't change the air filter.
Drained the bypass filter and reinstalled for a 3rd run.

What say you?

Is Si an additive in the Blue Restore? My opinion is the viscosity held up well & you're most likely seeing a "Lower" number since it didn't have many miles & the other samples did which allowed it to thicken up a bit. I think everything is how it should be. We know the high oxidation is from the Blue Restore. A slight bit of Pb & Sn the last few samples so it's getting a bit more wear in those areas. Seeing the miles on this cruiser & little to no oil consumption speaks for itself. No reason to change your plans with it.

Thanks for that detailed sample information. That would help to reason why Si is a bit higher. It has been consistent & wear trends are just fine. Also, do you know why the sample 1 had such a high Sodium spike? Always liked these FJ's & happy to see one not afraid of using the Boss. :cool:

Sodium, my guess is: like a dummy I listened to the wrong person and did some sort of engine flush? before switching to synthetic oil.

IMO the bypass filter system is the secret to my success with this vehicle. Without it I bet the Si might have done some damage.

We've all made that mistake of listening to "that guy". 😆

Agree, bypass filters are excellent if you can afford the installation & are going extended mileages.

Nice reports!

Why run R&P if it's not burning/using oil?

Your choice of "regular" fuel could be contributing to deteriorating atomization and fuel contamination.

I would try a fuel injector cleaner like Techron Concentrate AIO, Redline SI-1 or Royal Purple.
