Pennzoil Yellow Bottle Conventional or Valvoline MaxLife SynBlend?

What do you think is better for a heavy duty application (better anti-wear)? I am not looking for which one to use for longer drain interval (4,500 to 5,500 miles), nor am I interested in it cleaning what is already in the engine, but I don't want the oil to make the engine dirtier. I bought some old stock Maklife and PYB at Kmart (listed in BITOG rebate section), and I am wondering which one I should keep, and which one I should sell (for what I paid) to my friend who repairs cars. I plan on selling him all the Valvoline white bottles I got at Kmart.

I think the MaxLife might be better.

Keep and use it all.

The only oil I EVER had break down in normal usage was Valvoline. In around 1,500 miles, the engine started making all sorts of nasty noises. I checked the oil and it dripped off the stick like water. I changed the oil (Not to Valvoline of course, Quaker State I believe) and I never had a problem again (oil related) in that car. That was over 20 years ago. I'm sure it was a bad batch and Valvoline is better, but, I just can't ever bring myself to use it again with all the other options out there.

There are good UOAs to be found here with all three oils.
VWB contains no moly, but apparently has other anti-wear adds.
I'd keep and use all three.
You don't tell us what engine in what vehicle in what use, though.
It could matter, although it probably wouldn't.

In that case, go with the Valvoline.

IMO both you mentioned are at the very head of the class. If you got the Maxlife on the Kmart clearance it's likely the slightly older SM version (all I bought there was) and thus it is packed with just as much moly as that wonderful yellow bottle. Maxlife didn't drop the high moly until it got into the SN version.

The Maxlife will be thicker for grade, and also being a syn blend IMO would be the better choice for your intended heavy duty use. But I can't hardly imagine going wrong with PYB either.

I suppose it depends on your vehicle and which matches the required specifications most closely. I like both oils. If it's running fine and not leaking or consuming much, there's nothing wrong with the PYB. If it's leaking, I found the MaxLife blend to be great (i.e. my old F-150 before the rebuild). For "durability," the MaxLife was fine, coping with some pretty serious fuel dilution issues, as in I think I could have dumped my used oil in the gas tank.
