Okay, as stated in my sig block, I use Mobil 1 5W-20 along with a Mobil 1 filter with an 8K OCI. I switched over from a vehicle lifetime Kendall Syn Blend (5K OCI) around 95K (Now at 135K).

Blackstone has given me pretty good reports since I started sending them in at the Mobil 1 switch...aside from a high silicon rating.

Hearing great things about the Pennzoil Ultra Plat. Sooooo, do I switch or stick with what works or change the Mobil 1 to the high mileage version?

Thoughts?

What is your rationale for switching? Just to try something new or something else? Both oils are excellent and are usually far underused in the vehicles in which they are installed meaning they are changed too often. The high silicon rating in your UOA has nothing to do with the oil, but with the air intake system (filter, hoses, etc--unless you have opened the engine up recently).

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Do you notice the difference in your car that is on the PUP OCI right now versus the other that has M1? I noticed right away with good throttle response, cause it *does* "protect" horsepower like it adverts, as well as better FE with that old school add pack with moly as FM, than the Val SynP that *just* and *only* protects (boring) and nothing else(FE, peppy etc)!

I'm on my first run of the PUP in my Buick. The "computer" tells me when to change it and I've been following it. It's around 5K miles.

I think it's a great oil.

Only if you were running 75W-140 as engine oil.

You honestly cannot expect anyone to believe that 1) there is a difference in throttle response between M1 and PUP and 2) that you can actually tell a difference.

+1 Claiming to notice a change in throttle response when changing oil brands of the same grade immediately casts doubt on the validity of the whole post. But then the rest of the post is "advertising writer science" anyway, so it pretty much disqualifies itself.

For real? For 40+ years of driving and changing my own oil I can not tell the difference in "throttle response" between the same or similar weight oil. Only by going from 5W-30 to 5W-50 did I notice a difference in acceleration and mpg.

Both are great & it won't matter. But Ultra Platinum is more comparable to Mobil 1 Extended Performance.

Pennzoil Platinum is the direct competitor to Mobil 1.

All other things being equal the difference at 10 years and 150K miles might be too little to make any difference. The rest of the car might wear out before the engine. Both are excellent oils. The only criteria that can be easily measured that would show a definite difference in real world performance that we could all agree upon would be price and availability.

What methodology allows one to compare to oils back to back via UOA?
Not to mention the fact the UOAs had better be stellar considering that two premium synthetics were ran for less than 6K each.
