Pennzoil Ultra back at Walmart and yes, Purolator 20k Gold is replacing the Endurance.

Used the P.UP. several times in the '18 Accent from April to October and went the P.U.P. 5w-20 October to April . Both made the engine quieter .

I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as most of you folks, but PUP 5W-30 was the only oil that I have had an UOA done on that tested out of grade. 23' Civic Type R This was Blackstone Labs on a 4170 mile OCI. cSt Viscosity @ 100°C 8.74 ( 9.1-11.3) // SUS Viscosity @ 210°F 54.9 (56-63)

Likely diluted with fuel.

It slipped to 0w20 territory. Did you have fuel in the oil?

How long is the Pennzoil good for if stored inside the case in a dark garage?

No one really knows. Depends on how it's stored. You need to test it to be sure it's ok. Better to store it inside, off the ground. Depends on whom you ask, but 4-5 years is tossed around here.

With the Pennzoil rebates happening now, I’m a happy camper. Just grabbed a few more jugs of 5w-30 PUP, $29.xx each and a $30 rebate from Pennzoil when you buy two. Cant beat a BOGO, I’m using VRP personally, but this will do fine in the wife’s 1.5 CRV and my Father in Law’s 2.7 EcoBoost F150

It's not cool to barely hit the minimum viscosity, unless there was an error during the testing by Blackstone. Their 0w20 is among the thickest
There’s more to it than that.

If I remember right, and I’d love it if someone smarter than me could elaborate on this, what you’re actually concerned with is HTFS (high temperature full shear) vs. viscosity.

A good HTFS score with a lower viscosity, comparatively, is a marker of good base stock (and, possibly, less viscosity modifier?).

A former member, Gokhan, published a spreadsheet that had many different oils’ viscosities, HTHS, and HTFS listed. I thought it was really helpful as a tool to select oils with good base stock, good HTHS, and low Noack. However, I’m aware that there were some here who possibly disagreed with some of Gokhan’s findings/data/methods.

@OVERKILL I’d enjoy reading your input on this.

The Walmart and Amazon deals are gone. I regret why I didn't order a few cases.

Yes this.

And I’ve never understood trying to “fine tune” it within a grade like this. Why? If you want something thicker then use a higher grade rather than picking nits on what amounts to an insignificant difference.

Blenders are only obligated to meet the grade designation anyway. Or the minimum HT/HS. Typical values on a PDS are just that - typical values. They don’t necessarily represent any specific lot and in some cases such as with Castrol they don’t represent any particular batch whatsoever.

The PENNZOIL ULTRA Platinum 0w-20 and 5w-20 are 8.8 @ 100C cSt at their site under VISCOSITY DETAILS .
