Pennzoil Platinum vs Boutique brands

(off topic) sorry.

If I were to run PP in stop and go conditions, how long (time wise) could I run it. Only putting on about 150 km per 7 day

OT again.

About Schaeffers, I picked up a bit for not much. It was no contest when the cheapest I can find PP around me is about $3/quart after rebate.

It will be interesting to see how long PP's 15mins of BITOG fame lasts (remember Havoline?). A formulation change can bring it all down

I ran it when it was FAR (free after rebates) GV (remember the EOP?) and then GIII - now I'm onto Q-Torque, Q-HP, Synpower, MaxLife Synthetic.

I'm a MaxLife Synthetic supporter. PP looks good though. If Maxlife drops the synthetic version... I'll probably give PP a try.

I also found some PP 5w-50 which I will get a picture of! Soon.

Alright, lets talk about these "adaptive molecules" that PP has that are supposed to be so good.

Advertising hype or is there something to it? In my feeble mind when a molecule splits, that is called "shear down".

Have I missed something? Does PP have some new whiz bang add pack that no one else has?

I'm curious because I'm thinking of giving it a try - I like the fact that it meets Hondas' new spec for their turbo engines - it's gotta be tough to do that.

I would use it in my new Mazdaspeed 3 which, in the UOA section seems to have fuel dilution issues.

That, plus Terry likes it, which makes me feel comfortable about using it. Just curious, because you can't beat the price at Wallyworld. Cheers!

"adaptive molecules" I think is marketing crud. But that doesn't mean that it is not a great oil which the UOAs here show it to be.

I have just put some PP 5W30 in my 5.4l V8 and I have already noticed a slight decease in valvetrain noise. Overall for the price I paid, I think it is one of the best OTC oils you can find.

Come on Buster. PP over Mobil 1. Have you seen the Mobil 1 banners at NASCAR races? How could you choose against something like that? And don't forget the F1 races. You don't see PP on any F1 cars now do you. I'll bet you did not think of that when you choose PP just because it's a much better oil than anything Mobil 1 makes. Just because for the price PP may be one of the best oils on the market does not mean you should choose it over Mobil 1 and those great big banners. Come on Buster, come to your senses. Repeat after me, Mobil 1 is the best because it’s factory fill in , but when no one is looking sneak in the parts store and buy the PP.

The more PP reports I see, the easier I sleep at night!

I must admit that I was a bit worried when I first switched from my beloved GC 0w30 over to PP 5w30 in my Vette. GC has some big shoes to fill, I've gotten nothing but awesome reports with it. But PP has also been one of those oils that seems to do no wrong, and has shown many people on here some simply amazing results. I'm at 14% right now on my Corvette's oil life monitor, so I'll be changing the oil in a few weeks time. It should hit zero right around 7000 miles, so it's about another 1000 to go. I can't wait to see the UOA! I haven't been this excited about a UOA since my very first GC UOA back in 2002!

Your vette has always had good uoa's .It probably will always have good numbers with any good oil because it is a good wearing engine.. I have been waiting for the uoa this time also,

I agree that the engine does have a lot to do with the amount of wear metals in the UOAs, but I also know that GC is responsible for a good portion of it too. Mainly because with other vehicles that I'd run others oils plus GC in, I've always found GC to produce significantly lower wear numbers. So GC definitely gets the job done, and I'm hoping PP does also!

I'm hoping to see some Subaru turbo UOA's on it, because I don't think any have been posted. Anybody know (or any turbo)? I know that AndyH is running it in his STI so we'll hopefully see one soon.

Lonnie, over 65% of NASCAR uses Mobil 1. It's not the same as the stuff you buy at Wallyworld but it's still based on the same technology. Same with PP. Mobil 1's racing oils are very good.

Buster, would M1 have been used in those COT Chevy engines that were blowing at Talladega last weekend?

Team Penske, West McLaren Mercedes, Porsche, Mopar Performance, Corvette Racing and an incredible 74 percent of NASCAR drivers trust Mobil 1 technology to protect their racing engines. Mobil 1 Racing 0W-30, specifically designed for exceptional performance and protection in NASCAR engines, is now being made available to consumers.

M1 we use is not the same and not as good.

I was just talking about nascar.

Buster, right. I was referring to the Nascar NEXTEL Cup race at Talledega last weekend. A bunch of Chevy engines blew.

Hopefully I'll see that as well. I'm about 7,300 miles into a Syntec 5W30 OCI and the valvetrain seems noisier than it was earlier in this OCI.

The Syntec is being drained in about a week for some PP 5W30.

I just switched my 2004 Accord 4cyl over tonight! Got the PP 5w30 for $.99/qt on rebate! Woot!!
cheers.gif

I'm an old GTX guy who changes at 3k OCI... I'm trying to figure out how long I can stand to leave this stuff in! I might actually do my first UOA at 5k and see what it looks like. These engines seem to be really easy on the oil...

Study up the uoa's unless there is a problem seems any oil does well at 5,000 mile oil change intervals.

Think it was oil related? I would doubt it.Those engines are putting out some h.p. Actually since some think NASCAR engines use the same parts as in the Chevrolet cars ,the failures were from coolant leaks from the intake manifold gaskets.
