Regardless, flash point has no direct impact on an oil's performance. In fact, higher quality base oils often have a lower flash point than lesser quality base oils. I wouldn't use it as an indicator of quality unless you're trying to use it to determine the type of base oil is being used, which isn't very straightforward.
This.

I don't understand what the problem with PP is. I use it in my 2019 Impreza. Though, I think the longest OCI I did was probably 4k at 6m. I have a few more jugs and will continue to use up then not sure where I'll go from there. For warranty, I may try Valvoline Restore and Protect even though at that point I'll be close to my 10yr/100k warranty being up. Maybe I'll trade off with Valvoline Restore and Protect and HPL/Amsoil. I have a while to make a decision.

In order for an oil to meet the coveted BITOG approval, it must contain at least a “good slug” or preferably a “boatload” of at least a single metallic additive that shows up in a used oil analysis.

Oils that do not meet the good slug or boatload metric may also gain BITOG approval upon favorable review of their PDS and/or MSDS. Any change to these aforementioned requirements (eg removal of low Noack results) may result in revocation of BITOG approval.

PP is similar to regular Mobil 1 I'd say. Maybe not even as good...It's fine. No problem but not top tier.

Yeah, I'm not too worried running it since I do relatively short OCIs. I would probably be ok running it in my wife's 14 crv going by the MM. But, with that said I have no problems running it. Hell, I ran Kirkland in her crv based off of the MM but she also has 174k miles on it and it is still running! I have Valvoline Restore and Protect in there now and will for the new few changes but after that, assuming the car lasts, going back to finish the Kirkland stash. I gotta empty my shelves some...

I think I would probably rethink things if I did more miles on the Impreza and/or I was extended changes but since I am under warranty, I try to stick to the 6k/6m change.

I have just seen multiple reports lately of pretty dirty engines that had been run on it for a while. @Hohn had a very varnished Honda that he cleaned up with Valvoline Restore and Protect that had been run on PP for its life. He was completely loading up oil filters of the junk left behind by PP.

This is from an engine run on PP.

Feel free to run what you like. It's a crowded field, and there are many far better oils for the same price, so I see no reason to run it. But feel free. I'm sure a mechanic would love to do a ring job on your Impreza from the junk left behind on your piston rings, if Valvoline Restore and Protect can't clean them up.

I think my problem was not so much using PP but leaving it in too long, trusting the OLM instead of changing it early.

PP seems to just a lot of lighter constituents in it that like to cook off in the heat of a J35.

BINGO! Sounds like a good suspected reason for dirty engine internals to me.

One can sub a “good golly, the moly” 😷

Pennzoil Pure Platinum Plus billed itself as the oil to keep engine internals looking factory new … Glad I moved away from it early switching to Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil .
