Thinking of running Pennzoil Platinum in my new 2026 Equinox but don't like the lower flash point compared to Quaker State Synthetic which is much higher. Is this a valid concern?

If you’re looking for a 0w20 D1G3 oil, I would look into Castrol EDGE Extended Performance. That’s what I’m running in my ‘23 Blazer. It’s the only D1G3 with a stout MB approval.
This or Mobil 1 Truck and SUV would be my picks for D1G3. I was going to recommend PUP but you’re nervous about warranty.

Has GM made Dexos R backwards compatible to D1G3?
I hadn’t heard anything about that, but looking into it, it looks like it. However, only a replacement for the appropriate viscosity. So, kind of but not really I suppose. Most D1G3 oils are 0w20 or 5w30 with I think maybe one 5w20 from Motul if I remember right.

The QS is probably tested to the D92 standard, whereas the PP is tested to D93. D92 reads higher by ~20°C. Now, the QS datasheet says that it's tested to D93, but that's probably an error. A 0W-20 oil won't have a D93 flash point of 239°C.

Regardless, flash point has no direct impact on an oil's performance. In fact, higher quality base oils often have a lower flash point than lesser quality base oils. I wouldn't use it as an indicator of quality unless you're trying to use it to determine the type of base oil is being used, which isn't very straightforward.

I haven’t read anything here that’s positive about PP. Multiple negative reports frankly. I’d avoid. Take @Glenda W. ’s advice.
I think it's a very very average synthetic. Pennzoil has a very mediocre line. There is a Shell Euro oil that's good. PUP is good but not readily available. Not sure how great the current version is though.
