Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 vs VW 508

As far as I can tell, Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 meets or exceeds VW 508 for everything but sulphated ash 0.9% vs 0.8%. Obviously not dyed green. Since my Atlas doesn't have a GPF and I'm not the least concerned about 'protecting' my warranty, any specification I'm missing that would actually matter?

I guess I was unclear. Ash is not a concern since I don't have a GPF. So if I choose to stick with a 0W-20 oil, Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 appears to meet or exceed all VW 508 specs except ash and dye, unless I'm missing something. That was my question. I wasn't asking if I could/should use a thicker oil.

But you should ask that.
I would run a quality 5w30 ILSAC like Valvoline Restore and Protect in that.
An ACEA high HTHS spec is too big of a jump.

My Audi S5 requires 508 and I ran it twice. After running 504 0w30 and hearing the engine difference as well as a cleaner UOA, I will never ever use 508 again. It is really trash oil for fuel economy.

Using 504 WILL NOT VOID YOUR WARRANTY.... 20 years at a dealership and never saw an oil spec cause warranty issues. I never saw oil be tested.

Run VW504.00/507.00 or VW511.00.

How do you know that? Considering Pennzoil is in the business of making money, why did they not send it for approval and have oil that fits the needs of an additional consumer group?
Also, Shell has approved VW508.00/509.00, and it is not the same oil as Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra 0W20.

0W-20 Too Thin?

I see no one could answer my question. I also see the group think is 0W-20 is 'too thin', with no evidence to support it. I know a few things about oil, but he knows more than me. Thicker oil isn't 'better' oil.

Hi,
But you just came to the forum and started arguing with people that know about oils more than you.
I don't remember if I did the same when I started writing on the forum 9-10 months ago.

We've watched that vodeo long time ago and many other similar videos as well but that doesn't proof your point.

The fact I will never use 0w20 VW508 again has nothing to do with "thin" aka low viscosity. It has to do with the fact the HTHS is too low and POSSIBLY the cause of the EA839 engine eating cam gears. I will only run a higher HTHS VW504 oil in a 0w30 viscosity.

I care less about viscosity and more about HTHS.

Just Use Mobil 1 ESP X2 0w20. It needs the spec and is just as cheap as the Pennzoil that doesn’t meet the specification.

Again, are these VAG turbo engines are so fragile and odd in design that they need special approval or some magical band aid EP adds to live? Compared to eveyone else's small displacement turbo engines? Many with higher specific output?

What is missing in in a ILSAC cert 20 grade vs. the VAG 508.00/509.00 - other than a long life OLM capability?

The rule in petrol oils is HTHS über alles! Enough to keep it alive but not so much to unduly sap efficiency (and power).

I'll say again this motor needs more than a low HTHS 20 grade - but NOT that much more.
