There is a reason why Mobil 1 is the best seller.

Personally i like the look of the new Pennzoil jugs they improved the caps so they don't leak as much but they still don't use the inner seal like other quality oil companies do..

Still hung up on those seals are we! None of my Pennz bottles leak

I've never had one leak but I ALWAYS check the caps. At Walmart, it's been my experience that I'd more likely run into someone who's tampered with the cap for a rebate or some kind of nefarious purpose than having it leak on its own accord. If there's one left in the 5 qt. jug flavor you need...watch out.

Can't say I'm too enamored with the new jug design...they're closer to a neon blur than something that differentiates them.

It took SOPUS less than 3 years to close the gap and on Mobil One. In 2016 Pennzoil had a nearly 10% lead in market share over Mobil with lube places after trailing by 30% 4 years earlier. I know you have become a cheerleader for Mobil products this is fine.

Whats the problem? Black cap is conventional, red is HM, Silver indicates Platinum line with Pure Plus (with HM Platinum in red letters), and the Gold cap is their blend, just like it always has been. If someone wants Pennzoil, it's all still there, even for the majority that can't read.
Now if they just invested in the idiots that (don't)process the rebates, they might get their customer base back. And I still think a GTL synthetic line for diesels would sell like hotcakes.

Good description!

If Mobil, Valvoline, and Castrol do the same thing as Pennzoil did, I will be in a color trance in the Walmart oil aisle.

"And I still think a GTL synthetic line for diesels would sell like hotcakes."

http://rotella.shell.com/products/pc-11.html

The new Shell Rotella T6 and T5 do have the GTL basestocks in them. It takes some reading around the Shell website, but, go down on the page linked to where the T5 is listed, and it says how it uses the gas-to-liquid process.

On another part of the website, where they introduce the Triple Protection Plus, it says, "Shell PurePlus Technology produces clean and crystal-clear base oil." I think they are referring to the GTL oils?

As long as the caps are different colors(3 look the same color in beanoils post). Otherwise, and I hate to be so cynical about human nature, someone could switch labels. I know it seems difficult but some ne're-do-well will find a way to do it. I have not seen the new bottles in person so there could be other differences not visible in the photo.

Pennzoil is trying to use the all yellow bottles to better coincide / identify with their NASCAR and Indy car series race cars ... Doesn't bother me one bit - I wanted to use their offering I could make my way around the various series just fine .

Given how aggressively Shell has been pursuing factory fills, Mobil will be well served to be careful. It even has to watch the stuff it already has, with respect to other oil companies, too. Castrol signage is featuring very prominently at a local GM dealership, for instance. Mobil is the service fill for Infiniti and Nissan in Canada, but Castrol and the Renault Group are talking about having Castrol as factory fill and service fill for every vehicle under the umbrella across the board globally.

So, I'd suggest that now isn't the time to sit on one's historical laurels.

Not sure if already stated - As seen in WM yesterday : Quaker State has followed suit now and has gone to all green jug with similar labels as Pennzoil . As a matter of fact the jugs are the exact same shape - just green . So now you have Pennzoil in all yellow jugs and Quaker State in all green jugs with just different labels and caps to differentiate between the differing oils.

To me - what Shell is doing is like boarderline dumping much like LG in appliances -only they are good products. IMO, once they capture market and eliminate others they will raise prices. Of all the many places I have shopped for years - I know of none that is not a rapid Royal Dutch Shell take over of shelf space. You know how that gets done. My other choices are being pulled from stock - I want those choices and I'm going to quit Shell for that reason.

No leaks here either and I shake the [censored] out of them before using them, and they still don't leak.

I liked the look of the old packaging better, but I can see they're looking for more brand recognition, and it seems yellow is their color. Now when you walk down the oil isle in WMT and other stores yellow bottles will be the dominant color.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, the Canadian market is a bit different. We're already overpriced.

Up here, Wakefield does the aggressive marketing. The Shell distribution model is an absolute disaster up here, though there were reputed to have been some changes taking effect up here as of January 1. I'll have to see in the long term, though.

The system up here started with distributorships leaving all but the most lucrative markets, turning over most oil sales to retail outlets, and abandoning a lot of rural fuel and oil markets, then having a two-tiered distribution model once Shell purchased Pennzoil-Quaker State, and having absolutely clueless reps when it came to the basic Shell products and even more clueless ones who were given full line access. When these reps also think that their products are worth substantially more than the equivalent products of the competition, they're dreaming.

On the other hand, I'd swear that if a kid put up a lemonade stand here, a Wakefield Canada rep would approach him with the complete line of Castrol products. About 99 out of 100 independent shops here are loaded with Castrol signage and products.

I'd like to see the oil labels go retro/ vintage. I love all of the old school oil company logos and it would be sweet to see them go back to their original designs.

I'm surprised they haven't thought of something like that already...if they haven't. If NFL and MLB teams can go retro with uniforms, I can see old school script and logos on an oil container. It might be a little strange to see Pennzoil Ultra or Valvoline Synpower in Victorian-era or Art Deco script though...

Shell is trying real hard to become number 1 they are even giving oil away which is a great marketing idea because when someone tries an oil especially for free they will probably keep using it.. I started using pennzoil wheni was very young because someone i respected turned it on to me saying it was one of the best oils...lol
I am no longer using Pennzoil on a regular bases but i think it is a good average oil at an ok price.
